API Developer

As an API Developer, you’ll design, build, and run secure, scalable APIs that power client’s digital products and internal platforms. Working in a cross-functional engineering team, you’ll contribute to delivering reliable, modern, cloud-native services built on Java and event-driven architecture principles.

What you'll be doing

  • Design, build and evolve high-performing APIs and backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Maven.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, architects, and testers to deliver high-quality, business-aligned solutions.
  • Create and maintain clear API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger) and define standards for internal and external API consumption.
  • Design APIs following established standards (REST, GraphQL, SOAP), focusing on versioning, backward compatibility, and consumer experience.
  • Integrate with both internal and third‑party APIs while ensuring resilience, observability, and robust error handling.
  • Build event-driven services with Kafka (or similar) — from topic design to schema management and reliability patterns.
  • Deploy cloud‑ready applications on AWS (EKS, Fargate, S3, RDS, Route 53).
  • Write automated tests, perform API testing, and troubleshoot production issues following the “you build it, you run it” principle.
  • Collaborate on engineering standards emphasizing security, maintainability, and continuous improvement.

Who we're looking for

  • Hands-on experience building APIs and backend services in Java.
  • Solid experience with Spring Boot and build tools (e.g., Maven).
  • Strong understanding of backend architecture (data access, caching, resilience, service design).
  • Excellent knowledge of API design standards (REST, GraphQL, SOAP).
  • Familiarity with API testing and documentation tools (Postman, Swagger UI, OpenAPI, SoapUI).
  • Experience with data formats such as JSON, XML, XAML.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues, improve performance, and enhance reliability.
  • Great communication and collaboration skills — working effectively across teams.
Nice to have
  • Experience with event-driven architecture at scale (Kafka Streams, schema registry, idempotency).
  • Exposure to AWS cloud infrastructure (EKS, Fargate, RDS, Route 53, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, observability tools (metrics/logging/tracing).
  • Strong analytical thinking and a pragmatic, delivery-oriented mindset.
