Job Description Summary

Grid Automation offers its customers a complete range of innovative products, systems and services covering design and manufacture, as well as commissioning and long-term maintenance of Substation Protection and Automation solutions. This includes protection relays, control systems, cybersecurity solutions, device management, asset performance, and more.

We are looking for a Software Team Leader for the Asset Performance Management (APM) product within the GridBeats™ portfolio. The Asset Performance Management product manages large fleets of grid-connected devices, ensuring the fleet runs efficiently by running predictive analytics, maintenance optimization and risk optimization algorithms across the fleet. This is an analytics first, UI intensive product deployed at scale to ensure reliability and predictability of grid connected assets.

The Software Team Leader will lead distributed development teams and be responsible for delivery, technical direction, and team leadership for the Asset Performance Management product.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

Software Development & Delivery

  • Lead the software development team responsible for the Asset Performance Management product.
  • Own delivery of software features, releases, and maintenance for the product.
  • Plan and coordinate development activities across distributed teams in collaboration with the APM Project Manager.
  • Work closely with Product Management to translate product requirements into development plans and technical solutions.
  • Contribute to long-term product and technical roadmap planning.

Technical Leadership & Quality

  • Guide technical decisions and support the team in software design and implementation.
  • Ensure high software quality, maintainability, and reliability of the product.
  • Collaborate with Software Architecture, QA & Testing, UX, and DevOps teams to ensure alignment with common practices and platform architecture.
  • Ensure proper software development processes are followed, including code reviews, testing, documentation, and release processes.
  • Manage technical risks, technical debt, and system improvements.
  • Support troubleshooting of complex technical issues and customer problems when required.

People Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing software engineering team.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of team members.
  • Foster collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination across distributed teams and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Education & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical discipline.
  • Strong and proven experience in software development, with experience in technical leadership or team leadership roles.
  • Experience leading distributed or international software development teams.

Software Engineering & Technical Expertise

  • Strong experience with backend/server software development using technologies such as Java, C#, or similar.
  • Experience working with distributed systems, client-server architectures, or large-scale device management systems.
  • Experience working with databases, APIs, and system integrations.
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Asset Performance Management & Reliability Engineering

  • Experience with Asset Performance Management (APM) systems, predictive analytics platforms, or condition-based monitoring solutions for industrial assets.
  • Proven experience with optimization algorithms, including maintenance optimization, risk-based optimization, or fleet-level resource optimization.
  • Experience with Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodologies, failure mode analysis (FMEA), or reliability engineering principles applied in software systems.

AI/ML & Advanced Technologies

  • Hands-on experience or strong technical understanding of AI/ML technologies, including machine learning model development, deployment, and integration into production software (e.g., predictive maintenance models, anomaly detection, Remaining Useful Life estimation).

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders (Product Management, Architecture, Operations) without direct authority, driving consensus on technical direction and priorities.
  • Strong coordination skills, with proven ability to orchestrate work across multiple teams, time zones, and organizational boundaries while maintaining delivery momentum.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear messaging for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Track record of building trusted relationships with senior leadership and effectively advocating for team needs, resources, and strategic investments.

  • Experience with software deployment, version management, and update mechanisms.
  • Experience with cybersecurity considerations for device communication and software updates.
  • Experience with data pipelines and analytics frameworks for processing large volumes of sensor/telemetry data from grid-connected assets.
  • Familiarity with statistical modeling, time-series analysis, or digital twin concepts for asset health assessment.
  • Experience leading teams that develop and operationalize AI/ML models in production environments (MLOps, model monitoring, retraining pipelines).
  • Knowledge of power grid assets, substation equipment, or utility industry standards related to asset management (e.g., IEEE, IEC standards).

Leadership & Ways of Working

  • Structured and pragmatic mindset, balancing technical quality with delivery timelines.
  • Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive topics to completion.
  • Ability to work in international and matrix organizations.

  • Ability to navigate organizational complexity, manage competing priorities from multiple stakeholders, and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Coaching and mentoring mindset, with experience developing individuals' communication, collaboration, and leadership capabilities.
