Can you combine technical expertise with strong stakeholder management to turn Application Support from a reactive, ticket-driven service into a proactive, solution-oriented partner for the business?
As an Application Services Engineer, you help make critical applications reliable, secure and ready for change. You are the link between application owners, internal customers, technical specialists and external suppliers. You understand the technical detail and can communicate it clearly and confidently to stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge. You translate risks, incidents and lifecycle choices into understandable impacts, practical options and clear recommendations, enabling the business to make informed decisions.
In an organisation of around 1,900 people undergoing change, you will have substantial responsibility and the opportunity to make a visible difference.
How you will make a difference
In this role, you will improve how colleagues experience support for the applications they rely on, so that application services become more reliable, transparent and focused on sustainable solutions rather than individual tickets.
You will work with application owners, internal customers, technical teams and suppliers to create clarity around priorities, ownership and follow-up. You can explain technical issues in a way that enables non-technical stakeholders to understand the impact, make informed decisions and agree on the right next steps.
Within your first year, application owners and internal customers should experience clearer ownership, more predictable follow-up and better visibility of application health, risks and lifecycle priorities. They should see Application Support as a partner that helps solve underlying problems and supports future change.
In practice, you will:
- Partner with application owners and value streams to understand business needs, develop application roadmaps and balance operational reliability with future change.
- Translate complex technical issues, risks and dependencies into clear priorities, decisions and actions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Identify root causes, recurring issues and opportunities for structural improvement, rather than focusing only on resolving the immediate ticket.
- Build effective relationships with external suppliers, challenge them on service quality and structural improvements, and coordinate escalations when reliability or continuity is at risk.
- Identify operational, lifecycle and continuity risks, keep support documentation and recovery arrangements current, and contribute to audit and compliance activities where required.
- Use data, monitoring, automation and AI-supported tools to reduce repetitive work, prevent incidents and improve the quality and predictability of application services.
- Seek out the right colleagues and solutions when work stalls, helping teams move towards a resolution.
Your future colleagues
You will join the Application Services team within Platforms & Infrastructure and report to the Team Lead Application Support & Authorisation Management.
You will collaborate internationally on shared applications, operational standards and supplier services across the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Spain.
What you will bring
Your unique potential and your values matter most to us. We look for people who are self-aware and who think in a broad, connected way, always conscious of their effect on society, the environment and the economy.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience working with complex stakeholder management, working with application owners, internal customers, technical teams and suppliers. You can build trust, manage expectations and create clarity around ownership, priorities and next steps.
- The ability to translate complex technical issues, risks and dependencies into clear and relevant communication for non-technical stakeholders, enabling them to make informed decisions.
- Experience improving enterprise application services beyond day-to-day incident handling, using root-cause analysis and operational insights to deliver structural improvements in reliability, lifecycle management and service quality.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies, SQL, Azure, VMware and network infrastructure. Knowledge of and experience with these technologies is essential for this role.
- Experience balancing operational stability, business value, lifecycle priorities, security and continuity risks. You use service data, monitoring, automation or AI-supported tools to prevent incidents and reduce repetitive work.
If you do not meet every technical requirement but bring extensive experience in communication and stakeholder management, we would still very much like to hear from you.
