About the Company
At WhiteSpace, we bring care back to critical decisions. Our AI-powered solutions don't replace human judgment - they elevate it. By combining advanced algorithms with deeply human interfaces, we turn complexity into clarity and confident action - always with fast time to value. Behind that is a team of 25+ consultants and engineers with the delivery discipline to take a client's problem all the way to something they use to make better, faster decisions. Our use cases span energy, manufacturing, logistics, and health.
About the Role
You are the person who turns a client's problem into a product they use. You build it end-to-end: user experience, frontend, backend, and algorithms. You do so using our shared platform, working as a pair with a consultant who owns the scope. You own the build: its design, its technical quality, and whether it actually works in the client's hands.
Responsibilities
- Build the whole thing. Take an agreed scope to a working application across the stack: interface, frontend, backend services, data, and the algorithms underneath. Decide what to build, what to reuse, and what to leave out.
- Work agentically. Build, test, and document with agentic tooling as the default, and own everything it produces.
- Think in terms of our Platform. Build on our shared platform components rather than from scratch. When something you need is general, help put it into the platform so nobody builds it twice.
- Be the technical voice in the room. Hear requirements first-hand, explain your design choices, run technical sessions, and demo progress as you go.
- Give honest estimates. Size the work with your consultant and commit only to what has been sized. When the build won't meet the plan, say so early - and when something isn't ready to ship, say that too.
- Ship quality. Automated tests, reference cases, and evidence that the solution does what was agreed. It is done when it runs in the client's environment, and someone else can maintain it.
Key interfaces
- Clients: You own the technical conversation: requirements, design choices, demos.
- Consultant: Your partner on every new build. Together you agree scope, estimate, and acceptance before anything is committed. The consultant leads the client conversation and the commercial commitments; you lead the technology.
- Innovation & Account Lead: You report here.
- Tech Lead and Platform developers: Platform standards, and specialist depth (optimisation, performance, security) when a build needs it.
Competences & Experience
- Experience: Evidence that you have built complex end-to-end products and made them work - at a job, in your thesis, or on your own. Recent MSc graduates welcome.
- Breadth over specialism: Comfortable across frontend, backend, data, and deployment, with enough optimisation and algorithms to implement them and judge whether the results make sense. Our Tech team brings specialist depth; your job is to bring breadth.
- Product and UX judgement: You build interfaces people love to use and make decisions with.
- Engineering discipline: Testing, versioning, CI, so what you build survives beyond its builder.
- Care about the problem: Enough curiosity about the client's world to notice when a correct answer is useless to them, and to talk it through with them directly.
- How you work: You would rather talk to the client than read a ticket about them. You chase quality and notice when something is off before the client does.
Why this is worth doing
Most engineering jobs are a slice: a service, a layer, a ticket from someone who spoke to someone who spoke to the client. This role is built the other way round. You hear the problem first-hand, you build the whole thing, and you see it used. The measure is simple: the client uses what you built, and asks for the next thing. If you would rather ship the whole thing than a part of it, this is a seat designed around that.
Terms & Conditions
- This is a staff position, based in The Netherlands.
- We offer a hybrid work environment and trust you can balance remote & office work.
- Fluent English required; willingness to travel as client engagements require.
- Starting salary €58,800 + 8% holiday allowance + 4% pension contribution.
- The first year is a step-up year: we expect you to grow into the full role, which brings the base salary to €79,800 + 8% holiday allowance + 4% pension contribution.
- We have an annual profit-sharing scheme dependent on company performance, individual delivery, and alignment with company values.
- We also intend to offer equity participation as part of our commitment to sharing in the company's future success.
