Artificial Intelligence Engineer (Hybrid)

Position: AI Engineer (hybrid)

As an AI Engineer, you will design, build and ship AI-powered features across the Vida24 ecosystem, a digital health platform of medical devices, mobile and cloud applications for the continuous monitoring of patients with chronic diseases and for supporting medical decision-making. You will turn health, wellness and device data into practical value for patients and clinicians, from intelligent assistants and personalized recommendations to risk alerts and clinical insights.

Vida24 is built on a Laravel backend with a MySQL database, exposing REST APIs consumed by Flutter mobile applications. You will work closely with the backend and mobile teams to integrate AI services into this stack, and with product owners to turn user needs into reliable, safe and measurable AI functionality.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product owners, UI/UX engineers and developers to identify use cases where AI adds real value for patients, clinicians and care teams.
• Design, develop and deploy AI features such as conversational assistants, summarization of patient data and medical terms identification.
• Build Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines over medical, nutrition and product knowledge, including embeddings, vector search and prompt design.
• Customize open-source models through fine-tuning and adaptation to Vida24 use cases, and deploy them on web servers.
• Develop and maintain machine learning models on health, wellness and device data for predictions, anomaly detection and personalized recommendations.
• Prepare, clean and analyze datasets from the Vida24 ecosystem, working with MySQL and data pipelines.
• Ensure all AI solutions respect data privacy and security requirements for sensitive health data including anonymization and access control.
• Support compliance activities for AI functionality within MDR, EU AI Act and ISO42001 including documentation and risk assessment.

Required Skills:

• 2+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, data science or software development
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with common AI/ML libraries
• Hands-on experience building applications with LLMs including prompt engineering, RAG and evaluation.
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and deploying AI services to production.
• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases (MySQL).
• Understanding of machine learning fundamentals: data preparation, model training, validation and performance metrics.
• Familiarity with Git and Agile Scrum development methodology.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to explain technical results to non-technical colleagues.

Nice to Have

• Experience within the healthcare, wellness or digital health domain.
• Experience with vector databases (e.g. pgvector, Qdrant, Pinecone) and AI frameworks (e.g. LangChain, LlamaIndex).
• Experience with MLOps, Docker, CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Basic knowledge of PHP/Laravel or Flutter.
• Master's degree or PhD in AI, Machine Learning or a related field.

Salary range: 1.300€-1.800€ per month depending on experience and skills.
