Working/Functional Title Assistant Manager - Project Management Position Summary Salary- Range $87,800 - $107,400 - annually depending on experience. The "Assistant Manager - Project Management" provides strategic and operational leadership to support the successful delivery of MSU's capital projects. Working closely with Capital Project Delivery Managers and IPF senior leadership, this position advances project management best practices through the development of standardized processes, governance frameworks, performance metrics, and quality assurance measures. The role oversees project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, funding utilization, and expenditure oversight, while leveraging data analytics and key performance indicators to support informed decision-making, risk management, and continuous improvement. This position also supports project delivery teams, administrative operations, procurement, construction, occupancy, and closeout activities to ensure projects are completed efficiently, responsibly, and in alignment with organizational goals. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: 30% - Supporting the Capital Project Delivery Manager in leading a team of project managers, administration, and successful delivery of capital projects. 25% - Developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving project management standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), governance processes, policies, templates, and best practices to enhance consistency, compliance, operational efficiency, and project outcomes. 20% - Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), including budget, schedule, change orders, contingency utilization, safety, and client satisfaction. Developing dashboards and reports that provide senior leadership with actionable insights and support informed decision-making. Utilizing project data to support quality assurance, risk management, compliance, audit activities, and continuous improvement. 15% - Overseeing project financial management, including: budgets, forecasts, cash flow, funding utilization, and change order review. 10% - Supporting capital project administrative activities for procurement, construction, occupancy, and closeout. Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. This position will engage in high performing, leading edge practices, valuing people, partners and stewardship. Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or construction management. Eight or more years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license will be required for this position. Must drive University vehicle to perform the duties of this classification and meet the Universities rigorous safe driving standards Desired Qualifications Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or construction management. Experience with project management is preferred, 8+ years of experience related to administrative functions of an operating unit, and 3+ years of experience related to budgeting and financial analysis. Experience with implementation of processes and standards, monitoring performance of an operational group, and leading strategic initiatives at a unit level. Ability to maintain focus and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruption to work.
