Job Description

Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Bristol | Hybrid | £40,000 - £45,000 | Permanent

Vargo Group is recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor for a specialist contractor delivering district heating networks, energy centres and associated mechanical and civil engineering works.

Working with experienced commercial and project colleagues, you will support the financial and contractual management of projects, building practical experience across procurement, cost control, valuations and final accounts.

The role

  • Help prepare project budgets, cost reports and forecasts, keeping commercial records accurate and up to date.
  • Measure works and assist with valuations, applications for payment and supporting documentation.
  • Help obtain subcontractor quotations, compare tender returns and prepare procurement information.
  • Track changes to scope, gather supporting evidence and help price and record variations.
  • Assist with checking subcontractor applications and preparing payment information.
  • Work with project teams to reconcile costs, monitor commitments and identify discrepancies.
  • Support final-account preparation and maintain clear records of correspondence, instructions and commercial decisions.

What you will bring

  • Some relevant quantity surveying or commercial experience within construction, engineering, utilities or a related contracting environment.
  • A quantity surveying or related qualification, current study towards one, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Good numerical skills, attention to detail and a working knowledge of Excel.
  • An organised approach, clear communication and the willingness to ask questions and develop your knowledge.
  • An interest in understanding how projects are delivered and how commercial decisions affect their performance.

Exposure to subcontract accounts, valuations or cost reporting would be useful. Previous district-heating experience is not essential.

The opportunity

A salary of £40,000 - £45,000 and hybrid working based in Bristol. This role offers exposure to commercial work across the project lifecycle within the low-carbon energy and infrastructure sector.
