With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we strive to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world.

Our therapeutic areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, liver diseases, cancer and inflammation, as well as serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

The Position

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director, Alliance and Collaborations Accounting to join our team in Cork, within the broader U.S. Controllership organization.

Reporting to the Director, Alliance and Collaborations Accounting, based in Cork, this role serves as a key technical and operational partner supporting the accounting, control, and reporting activities related to alliance and collaboration arrangements. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the review and execution of the team’s most complex arrangements, helping translate contractual terms and technical accounting conclusions into a scalable, end-to-end accounting approach across the life cycle of each arrangement.

This role requires close partnership with a wide range of cross-functional stakeholders to support sound accounting conclusions, consistent execution across periods, and high-quality financial reporting. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional with strong technical accounting expertise who is looking to lead in complex, judgmental areas and help drive operational excellence across the broader collaboration accounting portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead accounting and reporting for the most complex alliance and collaboration arrangements, including areas requiring significant technical accounting judgment, contract interpretation, and cross-functional coordination
  • Act as a strategic deputy to the Director, helping drive execution, prioritization, and issue resolution across the broader collaboration accounting portfolio
  • Lead the review of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities for assigned accounts, including journal entries, account reconciliations, royalty calculations, and other collaboration-related transactions
  • Lead accounting assessment and execution for complex new and existing collaboration arrangements, including milestone payments, cost sharing, royalties, and other contractual rights and obligations
  • Partner closely with Technical Accounting to evaluate complex or judgmental accounting matters and ensure appropriate interpretation and application of U.S. GAAP
  • Translate accounting conclusions and contractual terms into a scalable, end-to-end accounting approach across the full life cycle of each arrangement, including multiyear contractual periods, to support consistency, operational effectiveness, and reporting accuracy over time
  • Lead the preparation and review of accounting analyses, memoranda, disclosures, and reporting schedules for complex or high-risk areas, escalating novel or sensitive issues as appropriate
  • Serve as a key liaison between the collaboration accounting team and Technical Accounting, helping identify implications early and optimize the end-to-end accounting model
  • Partner closely with Alliance Management, FP&A, Corporate Development, Legal, Technical Accounting, and other stakeholders to support execution, issue resolution, process improvement, and informed decision-making

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive relevant accounting experience
  • Big 4 trained, with ACA or equivalent qualification, and a BA or BSc degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Experience in a multinational organization, preferably within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or another highly regulated industry
  • Strong technical accounting capability, including deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and a strong understanding of internal controls and SOX requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex or judgmental accounting matters in partnership with Technical Accounting and translate conclusions into sustainable operational execution
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and interpreting complex contracts and evaluating the related accounting implications across multiyear contractual periods
  • Proven ability to lead accounting assessments and execution for complex arrangements involving milestone payments, royalties, cost sharing, and other contractual rights and obligations
  • Strong judgment, analytical capability, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prepare and review technical accounting analyses, memoranda, disclosures, and reporting schedules for complex or high-risk areas
  • Strong leadership presence and cross-functional partnering skills, with the ability to guide team members, influence stakeholders at different levels, and build credibility across Finance and the business
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with strong ownership, accountability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to tight timelines; proficiency with systems such as Alliant and Oracle or SAP preferred
