Capital Markets Gateway LLC (CMG) is a capital markets-focused fintech transforming global equity capital markets (ECM) through data, technology, and connectivity. As the preferred source for ECM analytics and the first network connecting the buy-side and sell-side for ECM workflows, we are committed to reshaping how capital markets operate. Founded in 2017 by a team of ECM practitioners, CMG has completed three successful fundraising rounds and is backed by a group of the world’s most prestigious financial institutions. The Role

CMG is seeking an Associate API Sales Engineer to join the Data Services team, focused on growing CMG’s existing API and data client base. As a quota-carrying contributor, you will fully understand our clients’ data, workflow, and integration needs to ensure the value of CMG’s API offering is fully realized by our clients and monetized by sales. You will leverage your technical expertise to deepen product adoption, expand CMG’s data footprint within existing accounts, and support the build of new integrations, including connections to order management and execution management systems. You will also partner with Sales, Customer Success, Engineering, and Product to meet the ever-changing needs of CMG’s clients.

Your time will be split between leading expansion efforts across CMG’s existing API accounts and supporting the Head of Data Services in sourcing and selling new API business. With a sales-oriented approach, you will tailor your demonstrations and client-specific analyses to each client’s workflow, while emphasizing CMG’s value proposition to generate new revenue within the accounts you manage. Throughout your interactions with clients, you will address their challenges and surface feedback that helps shape the CMG product roadmap. The successful candidate will be keen to see their clients succeed, passionate to ensure CMG is an integral part of their workflow, and eager to grow revenue across their accounts.

The Associate API Sales Engineer reports to the Head of Data Services and will work directly on CMG’s API strategy, including a growing focus on OMS and EMS integrations. This is an opportunity to build deep technical and commercial expertise alongside some of the most sophisticated data users in capital markets.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and exceed your quota, which will consist of expansion revenue within existing API accounts and new API opportunities you help source and sell alongside the Head of Data Services.
  • Lead expansion efforts across existing API and data accounts, identifying upsell opportunities including additional datasets, premium functionality, and new integrations.
  • Support technical discovery and proof-of-concept work for new and expansion opportunities, using Python, SQL, and Excel to build client-specific analyses and data demonstrations.
  • Guide clients through onboarding, integration, and go-live, including integrations into order management (OMS) and execution management (EMS) systems, working alongside integration partners and CMG Engineering.
  • Serve as the day-to-day technical contact for live API clients, supporting developers, quant analysts, and data engineers on schema and workflow questions, and monitoring usage and account health to surface insights and flag risks early.
  • Act as the client's advocate and technical liaison internally, translating requirements and product requests into clear input for Product and Engineering, and partnering with Customer Success to develop tailored presentations, demos, and materials for API clients.
  • Record client interactions, technical evaluations, and pipeline activity in CMG’s CRM, and contribute to regular reporting on account health and pipeline.
  • Become a trusted member of the ECM community and a recognized expert on CMG’s data products and platform capabilities.
  • Qualifications

  • 3+ years in sales engineering, solutions engineering, technical account management, or another client-facing technical role, ideally at a Fintech, financial data provider, or Investment Manager.
  • Proficiency in Python and strong Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas, data modeling), with the ability to analyze data and build quick prototypes for clients.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and how client databases connect with 3rd parties.
  • Working knowledge of REST and GraphQL APIs, with the ability to read documentation and troubleshoot integrations.
  • Experience with or knowledge of OMS or EMS integrations is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and business audiences, from developers and quants to ECM desks and portfolio managers.
  • Commercial mindset with a team-selling approach, partnering with Sales to qualify opportunities and drive client outcomes and revenue growth.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage multiple accounts in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • B.S. or B.A. in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
