Associate Board of Director - (Unpaid)

The Organization:

YESS provides immediate, low-barrier support for youth ages 15–21 through our 24/7 Youth Support Centre, including access to safe shelter and essential services during times of crisis. Youth ages 15–24 can also access daytime programs, resources, and supports that help address their physical, mental, emotional, and cultural well-being.

We believe support does not end with meeting immediate needs. By building trusting relationships and connecting youth with the right resources, we help young people develop skills, strengthen their well-being, and create pathways toward independence.

Mission

Collaboratively build a network of care to ensure youth get the expert help they need, when they need it, and where they need it.

Vision

A more connected, holistic, and lower-barrier system for youth in crisis.

Values

Courage to be honest, vulnerable, and curious.

Connection with all stakeholders, both internal and external, to establish trust, empathy, and understanding

Commitment
to lead with intention, to make a meaningful difference and be accountable in all we do.

The Opportunity:

YESS is currently recruiting for Associate Board Members to join our board. We are looking for energetic, committed members to help us shape the organization. YESS’ Board works in partnership with the President & Chief Executive Officer and the rest of the Executive Team to ensure effective governance of the organization. The Board contributes to the strategic direction and provides governance oversight, and the operations are led by the President & Chief Executive Officer.

The Board actively works to identify and recruit Board members willing to contribute their professional experience, insights and lived experience to further the YESS’ strategic objectives and board’s governance capacity. As various terms come to an end, we are currently looking for strategic and engaged individuals, in the Edmonton and Surrounding Area, with non-profit board governance experience.

Associate Board members commit approximately six to ten hours per month, through attendance and active participation in board meetings every second month, an annual Board planning session, membership on a Board committee or working group, and engagement in external activities (events, fund development efforts and community outreach).

Board members are also expected to leverage their networks, connections, and resources to advance the work of the organization.

In a constantly changing environment, this is an exciting time for YESS. It is also an opportunity for individuals interested in ensuring that youth in crisis receive the support they need to lend their expertise and experience.
