Associate Data & Analytics Engineer
Location: Central London (hybrid: three days a week in the office or at client offices, the rest flexible)
Perfect for someone who loves building and solving hard commercial problems: writing the SQL, building the pipelines, and seeing their work land with real clients from day one.
About Elio
Elio is a data and strategic growth partner. We help scaling businesses build growth engines from their data, starting with solid data foundations and layering insight, analytics, strategy and automation on top.
We're a small, entrepreneurial team working in commercial, high-impact settings, and our work spans client delivery and building new products of our own.
This is an early, junior-to-mid-level hire. You'll work directly with the founder and our other engineers, learn fast, and take real ownership of your work.
The role
We're looking for an Associate Data & Analytics Engineer who wants to build. You'll help create the data foundations our work rests on, turn messy client data into reliable analytics and insight, and grow into shipping solutions that move the needle for clients.
This is a build-first role. You'll write the SQL and run the pipelines yourself, working alongside our engineers and learning from them as you go. The commercial relationship sits with our commercial team, but you'll be trusted to represent your work in the room and, as your confidence grows, to speak directly with clients and stakeholders.
You'll also be close to how we build, with exposure to our stack and standards and, over time, to new products and ventures beyond client work.
What you'll do
- Design and build the data foundations client work depends on: pipelines, models and warehousing.
- Write clean, well-tested SQL and Python, and follow good engineering practice (version control, documentation, code review, CI).
- Contribute to delivering data projects by helping to scope, prioritise and keep them on track, and grow into speaking with clients and stakeholders about the work.
- Turn data into insight through analytics and reporting, and lay the groundwork for strategy and automation.
- Build and integrate AI-driven solutions where they genuinely add value.
- Help shape how a growing consultancy delivers, including our processes, standards and stack, and contribute to new products and ventures as they take shape.
What we're looking for
Must-haves
- A real passion for building software and solving problems, and a drive to learn fast.
- Solid SQL and a good grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Some hands-on experience with data lakes and a modern data platform, ideally Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery.
- Good software engineering habits: Git/GitHub, branching, code review and clean commits.
- A self-starter who thrives in a small team, owns their work, and can explain technical ideas clearly to non-technical people.
Nice-to-haves
- Cloud experience.
- Broader exposure to engineering architecture, such as full-stack systems or side projects you've built and deployed.
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML or LLM-based tooling.
- Exposure to marketing and growth data (ads, CRM, CDP, first-party data).
- Experience as a technical point of contact for clients, or a consulting or agency background.
- A commercial streak and an interest in how technical work turns into products and outcomes.
Why join
- Entrepreneurial from day one: You'll be a key early hire in a small, profitable, founder-led team, close to the commercial side and to new products and ventures as we build them.
- Ownership: You'll have a real say in how we deliver, plus a performance bonus and potential equity for the right person, so you share in what you help build.
- Range: You'll gain technical depth across the whole stack rather than being siloed into one lane.
- Impact: Your work is the foundation everything else is built on, and you'll see it land.
- Growth: You'll help define our stack, standards and team as we scale.
- Hybrid: Three days a week with the team in central London, the rest flexible.
Before you apply
- You must already have the right to work in the UK. We're unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
- We're looking for someone who can start immediately or at short notice, so please apply only if you can join soon.
How to apply
Send your CV and a short note on a data project you owned end to end: what you built, the stack you used, and the outcome. A link to your GitHub or other relevant work is a plus.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
