About the Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Associate Electrical Director to join a growing engineering consultancy specialising in the design and delivery of large-scale data centre and mission-critical infrastructure projects across Europe.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished electrical engineering professional to take technical ownership of major hyperscale and colocation developments, lead a talented team of engineers and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.

Working closely with the executive leadership team, the successful candidate will oversee electrical design delivery across the full project lifecycle, from early feasibility and concept development through detailed design, construction support and commissioning.

The position offers significant technical autonomy, exposure to some of Europe's most complex data centre developments and a clear progression route to Director level.

Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & Technical Leadership
  • Act as the electrical design authority across major data centre projects, ensuring technical excellence throughout RIBA Stages 0–6.
  • Lead the design and development of HV/MV and LV power distribution systems, substations, UPS infrastructure, standby generation, BESS and critical power systems.
  • Oversee power systems studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and harmonics analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex hyperscale and colocation developments, including high-density and AI-driven data centre infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, design specifications, technical procedures and quality assurance processes.
  • Review and approve electrical designs, calculations and technical deliverables.
Project Delivery & Commercial Management
  • Lead electrical engineering delivery across multiple large-scale European data centre projects.
  • Manage project resources, engineering programmes, design fees, budgets and commercial performance.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams, contractors, specialist suppliers and client representatives.
  • Provide technical oversight during construction, including design reviews, site inspections, technical queries and commissioning activities.
  • Support the successful delivery of fast-track and complex design-and-build programmes.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of electrical engineers, from graduate through Principal level.
  • Manage engineering resources, technical performance and professional development.
  • Support recruitment, team expansion and the development of engineering capabilities.
  • Promote collaboration, technical innovation and consistent engineering standards across the business.
Client Management & Business Development
  • Act as a senior technical representative for hyperscale operators, colocation providers, developers and delivery partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Contribute to tender submissions, technical proposals, fee negotiations and client presentations.
  • Support the executive leadership team in identifying new business opportunities and developing the company's European presence.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant European and international engineering standards, including IEC, EN 50600 and applicable national regulations.
  • Promote safe-by-design principles and ensure compliance with relevant construction health and safety requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement through technical reviews, lessons learned and engineering best practices.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 12 years' experience in electrical engineering design, ideally within a consultancy, EPCM or design-and-build environment.
  • At least 5 years' experience leading electrical engineering delivery on data centre or mission-critical projects.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering large-scale hyperscale or colocation developments, ideally involving significant campus power infrastructure.
  • Strong technical knowledge of MV/LV distribution, critical power systems, UPS, standby generation, protection systems and electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience managing and developing engineering teams, including resource planning and project delivery.
  • Commercial awareness, including experience managing engineering fees, project budgets and client relationships.

  • Experience delivering projects through Architect/Engineer or Engineer of Record models.
  • Knowledge of standardised hyperscale design approaches and repeatable campus infrastructure.
  • Experience with live operational data centres, brownfield upgrades or capacity expansion projects.
  • CDCP, CDCS or Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer certification.
