The Opportunity
High-quality curriculum has the power to expand what’s possible for students, especially when they need additional support to reach grade-level expectations. Lavinia Group, a division of K12 Coalition, is seeking an Associate Director, Curriculum to support the development of thoughtful, rigorous, and impactful curriculum that creates meaningful learning experiences for students and educators.
This role will have a particular focus on literacy intervention, leading curriculum development and supporting the writers and contributors who bring that curriculum to life. The Associate Director will combine deep literacy expertise with curriculum leadership to help ensure materials are research-based, instructionally strong, and designed to address learning gaps, strengthen foundational literacy skills, and accelerate student progress.

What You’ll Do
Curriculum Development & Instructional Quality

Lead the development, review, and refinement of high-quality curriculum and instructional materials, with a particular focus on literacy intervention.

Apply expertise in literacy instruction and intervention to ensure materials address student learning needs, strengthen foundational skills, and support academic progress.

Translate standards, research, and evidence-based practices into clear, engaging, and educator-friendly instructional materials.

Review curriculum content throughout the development process to ensure instructional alignment, accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and quality.

Use research, student learning data, educator feedback, and other insights to continuously improve curriculum and instructional materials.

Apply relevant external review criteria and evaluation frameworks, such as EdReports, to curriculum development and quality review, helping ensure materials are designed to meet established expectations for high-quality instructional materials.
Writer Leadership, Coaching & Quality Support

Train, coach, and support curriculum writers on instructional design principles, content expectations, and quality standards.

Provide ongoing, actionable feedback to writers and contributors to strengthen content quality and support their development.

Serve as a key resource for writers throughout the development process, helping clarify expectations, address questions, and maintain alignment to curriculum goals and design.

Identify patterns, challenges, or quality concerns across curriculum development and partner with curriculum leadership to determine appropriate solutions.
Project Leadership & Execution

Lead curriculum development projects from planning through completion, ensuring alignment with instructional goals, quality expectations, and project timelines.

Manage multiple projects and priorities, proactively identifying challenges, developing solutions, and driving work forward.

Coordinate writers and contributors across assigned projects, supporting effective workflows, communication, and timely execution.

Partner with curriculum leadership to surface and address content, design, or performance concerns that may affect quality or project success.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Collaborate with curriculum leaders and cross-functional partners to ensure curriculum work aligns with broader product, program, and organizational priorities.

Stay current on research, trends, and best practices in curriculum development, literacy instruction, intervention, and instructional design.

Use digital and AI-enabled tools thoughtfully to support curriculum development, content quality, and team efficiency while maintaining strong instructional and editorial judgment.

Evaluate and apply AI-enabled tools throughout the curriculum development process, including supporting content development, review, refinement, and quality assurance, while ensuring outputs meet instructional, editorial, and accuracy standards.

Identify opportunities to improve curriculum development processes, tools, and ways of working as the team and portfolio evolve.
Other Duties

Support the team with additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to help meet evolving organizational goals and objectives.

5+ years of relevant experience in curriculum development, literacy instruction, instructional design, or a related area, including experience developing curriculum or instructional materials within a national curriculum company or comparable organization.

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience; advanced degree preferred

Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing, or leading the development of high-quality curriculum and instructional materials

Strong knowledge of literacy instruction and intervention, including approaches for supporting students with unfinished learning or specific literacy skill gaps
-
Knowledge of foundational literacy skills, evidence-based reading instruction, and the science of reading
-
Knowledge of research-based literacy interventions and instructional approaches for supporting diverse learners, including students receiving special education services and students who need additional language or content supports.

Ability to translate academic standards, instructional research, and best practices into effective, educator-friendly curriculum and instructional materials

Experience leading complex projects from concept through completion while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines

Strong writing, editing, and content review skills with attention to detail and instructional quality

Ability to provide clear, actionable feedback and effectively guide the work of curriculum writers and contributors

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and functions
