Associate Director - Public policy

We are looking for an Associate Director to join our expanding team in the Netherlands, leading the delivery of high-quality advice and analysis across a range of policy areas. Flint Associate Directors play a central role in our work as they take on broader leadership and mentoring responsibilities.

You will have the responsibility for managing client accounts and proactively leading day-to-day activity to ensure seamless delivery and consistently high-quality outputs. You will also be playing an active role in Flint’s growth and business development efforts and will be investing in the capability and development of junior colleagues.

Successful candidates will have a unique opportunity to support the continuing development of Flint’s business, and work on an exciting array of complex policy issues for our clients across various services and sectors. You’ll help them understand and shape policy and regulatory changes that affect commercial strategy. 

Key Responsibilities

• Project Delivery: Lead day-to-day delivery of client work, providing clear, actionable advice informed by a strong understanding of political, policy and regulatory developments. 

• Client account
  management:
  Take on responsibility for managing client accounts and client relationships, providing strategic insights to clients. 

• Policy and Political Analysis:
  Continuously developing and enhancing understanding of the policy, politics, regulatory, competition and commercial developments of interest to clients.

• Team Leadership: Manage and support junior colleagues, delegate effectively, provide guidance and feedback, and help ensure high standards
  of analysis, policy advice and insight across teams. 

• Business Development: Identify new opportunities with existing and prospective clients and contribute to proposals and thought leadership material. 

What we are looking for - skills & experience

We are seeking candidates with 6+ years’ experience of working at the Dutch government, regulator, political advisory, consultancy, think-tanks, public bodies or in-house policy or strategy team.

You should be able to demonstrate (‘essential criteria’): 

• A strong understanding of Dutch public policy, and how politics, regulation and economics interact in shaping business decisions. 

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distil complex issues into clear, concise advice. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including with senior stakeholders and in writing for non-specialist audiences. 

• Experience of managing project teams and supporting the development of others. 

• Personal drive, strong organisation, and the ability to manage competing priorities. 
• Fluent written and spoken Dutch and English are required. Knowledge of other EU languages is a big plus.
