About Child Mind Institute

We're dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders by giving them the help they need. We've become the leading independent nonprofit in children's mental health by providing gold-standard evidence-based care, delivering educational resources to millions of families each year, training educators in underserved communities, and developing tomorrow's breakthrough treatments.

Position Details:

As part of the Gund Learning & Diagnostic Center team, you will report to the Associate Director. You will receive a two-year advanced, structured training focused on neuropsychological assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults with diverse neurodevelopmental disorders and psychiatric comorbidities. You will be prepared for independent practice by emphasizing clinical service delivery, including comprehensive and targeted assessments, psychodiagnostics evaluations, and detailed report writing adhering to Houston Conference guidelines. You will participate in all aspects of the evaluation process—from clinical interviews and testing to feedback sessions and school-based collaboration, including observations, meetings, and legal proceedings when applicable. Furthermore, you will carry treatment cases involving executive functioning skills training and academic remediation, while developing core competencies in history taking, battery selection, behavioral observations, and case formulation. This is an exempt, full-time, hybrid (this position requires a minimum of four (4) days per week in the office, on a schedule determined by your supervisor) in our NYC headquarters office or other relevant location. The in-office requirement and schedule are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the organization.

You Will:

  • Conduct comprehensive clinical interviews with patients and/or their families.
  • Administer, score, and interpret neuropsychological and educational test measures in individuals between the ages of 4 and 25 presenting with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric concerns.
  • Provide clear and meaningful feedback to patients and/or families on the findings of neuropsychological and educational evaluations.
  • Draft, edit, and finalize written reports of neuropsychological and educational evaluations.
  • Collaborate with health professionals, service providers, and educators to gather and share information to ensure quality care for patients.
  • Conduct detailed observations of behaviors and functioning of patients in school settings.
  • Provide evidence-based care for patients seeking academic and executive functioning remediation.
  • Create educational materials for parents and educators and present educational talks to varied stakeholders.
  • Provide supervision to other trainees under umbrella supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Actively participate in supervision and didactic opportunities.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

You Have:

  • Completed PhD or PsyD from a graduate program in clinical, counseling, or school psychology.
  • The doctoral degree above must be conferred approximately six weeks prior to beginning the position.
  • Limited Permit to practice psychology in NY State.
  • Completion of doctoral internship.
