Associate Software Engineer, C++ Linux
Location: Nasuni Hyderabad IIC — Hybrid, 3 days in office
Role Overview
Nasuni is looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our Datapath team in Hyderabad. This is an early-career engineering role for someone who wants to build strong foundations in C++, Linux, systems programming, debugging, and performance-sensitive software.
You will contribute to the core data-path capabilities behind Nasuni’s cloud-native file data platform — the software that helps enterprise customers access, move, protect, and manage file data across distributed environments. You will work with experienced engineers to implement well-defined code changes, fix defects, strengthen test coverage, investigate issues, and learn how reliable, scalable systems are built.
This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys low-level problem solving, wants to grow in C++/Linux engineering, and is curious about storage, networking, concurrency, file systems, and distributed infrastructure. It is not a fit for someone looking primarily for people management, senior architecture ownership, or general web application development without systems depth.
Level & Scope Definition
You will own assigned tasks, defects, tests, and small implementation areas with guidance from senior engineers. You will participate in design discussions, code reviews, debugging sessions, sprint planning, and technical learning within the Datapath team. Your decision authority will grow as you demonstrate code quality, testing discipline, and understanding of Nasuni’s platform.
Responsibilities
- Implement, test, and maintain C++/Linux software for well-defined Datapath features, fixes, and tools.
- Debug issues in your code or assigned components using logs, tests, debuggers, and mentor guidance.
- Write unit tests, improve test coverage, and help reproduce product issues with QA and Performance Engineering.
- Learn and apply systems concepts involving memory, threading, file I/O, networking, latency, throughput, and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions with clear questions and thoughtful feedback.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools for code exploration, test ideas, debugging hypotheses, and documentation while validating correctness, security, and maintainability before using outputs.
Expected Outcomes and Impact
In your first year, you will deliver reliable assigned code changes, improve test coverage, resolve defects with increasing independence, build practical C++/Linux debugging skills, and develop trusted working relationships within the Hyderabad engineering team.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 0–2 years of software engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, academic projects, open-source work, or early professional experience.
- Foundational C++ or C programming experience on Linux.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and basic networking concepts.
- Basic debugging experience using tools such as gdb, logs, test output, Linux command-line tools, or similar diagnostics.
- Ability to write clear code, respond to code review feedback, and communicate task status clearly.
- Curiosity about using AI-assisted development tools responsibly with human review and validation.
Preferred
- Internship, project, or coursework involving systems software, file systems, storage, distributed systems, databases, networking, or performance-sensitive software.
- Exposure to multi-threaded programming, memory management, file I/O, sockets, or Linux internals.
- Experience writing unit tests or using Python, Go, shell scripting, or similar tools for automation.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD workflows, Linux build tools, sanitizers, tracing, or profiling tools.
- Practical use of AI coding assistants for learning, test generation, documentation, or debugging with careful validation.
Ideal
- Completed a meaningful C++/Linux systems project with measurable performance, reliability, or correctness goals.
- Demonstrated strong debugging discipline through internships, labs, open-source work, or personal projects.
- Known for learning quickly, asking good technical questions, and taking ownership of assigned work.
Experience Guidelines
Most aligned candidates will have 0–2 years of total software engineering experience. Strong academic, internship, open-source, or project-based C++/Linux experience may substitute for professional experience. Candidates with more experience may be considered if they are motivated by Associate-level scope, mentorship, and hands-on systems learning.
