YOU
As Associate Structural Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with experience in wood truss design and structural engineering. You understand how structural engineering principles, building codes, industry standards, manufacturing practices, and engineering software come together in the design and production of roof and floor truss systems. You enjoy solving technical problems, evaluating engineering calculations, and ensuring engineering solutions are accurate, code-compliant, and practical for real-world construction. You are interested in applying your engineering expertise beyond traditional design work by helping shape the engineering logic and requirements behind software used throughout the wood truss industry. You are collaborative, detail-oriented, and able to communicate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. You are either a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or actively progressing toward licensure through EIT certification and future PE eligibility.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Develop and Validate Structural Engineering Applications (50%)
Develop, document, and maintain engineering requirements and specifications for software applications used in the design and manufacture of wood trusses.
Translate structural engineering principles, building codes, industry standards, and accepted engineering practices into software requirements.
Support the development and validation of engineering calculations, load applications, member design, connection design, and structural analysis functionality.
Evaluate software outputs for structural accuracy, code compliance, and alignment with engineering requirements.
Investigate technical issues and recommend corrections or enhancements based on sound engineering judgment.
Participate in software validation and testing activities to ensure requirements are implemented correctly.
Collaborate Throughout the Product Development Lifecycle (30%)
Work alongside structural engineers, software developers, product managers, quality teams, user experience professionals, and industry stakeholders to develop and improve engineering applications.
Contribute engineering expertise to requirements gathering, user stories, acceptance criteria, functional testing, structural validation, and release readiness activities.
Communicate complex truss engineering concepts clearly to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Help distinguish engineering requirements from software functionality, usability, and product requirements.
Support Technical Operations and Industry Knowledge (20%)
Create and maintain engineering specifications, validation criteria, technical documentation, and training materials.
Support internal teams and customers with complex truss-design and engineering-application questions.
Monitor changes to building codes, engineering standards, and truss-industry requirements and assess their impact on engineering applications.
Help preserve and transfer specialized engineering knowledge through documentation, repeatable validation methods, and collaboration across teams.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or eligible to sit for the PE exam within one year of employment.
- Minimum of 2 years of structural engineering experience.
- Experience with wood truss design and analysis.
- Experience using truss design software or structural engineering applications.
- Working knowledge of wood design principles, structural analysis, load paths, and applicable building codes.
- Ability to evaluate engineering calculations, design logic, and software outputs for technical accuracy and code compliance.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience working for a truss manufacturer, component manufacturer, engineered wood products company, or structural consulting firm.
- Familiarity with TPI, TPIC, NDS, IBC, and IRC standards.
- Experience with MiTek, Alpine, Eagle, Simpson, or similar truss design platforms.
- Experience with U.S. and Canadian building codes.
Experience in truss fabrication, component manufacturing, or residential/light-commercial construction.
WHY JOIN US
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of structural engineering, product development, and industry innovation. This position offers the opportunity to learn from experienced structural engineering experts, contribute to future product innovations, and make a direct impact on how roof and floor truss systems are engineered across North America.
