JOB SUMMARY
The Imaging Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, integrity, and compliance of medical imaging systems and related interfaces within the healthcare system. This role involves active participation in project management, vendor relations, and the continuous improvement of imaging workflows and technologies. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the clinical environment, ensuring seamless image viewing, interpretation, and data exchange.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Image Management & System Optimization
- Ensures an optimal environment for the viewing and interpretation of medical images.
- Monitors and manages interfaces to key systems, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and Voice Recognition systems.
- Verifies data integrity and optimizes image and workflow processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Participates in and provides recommendations for the development of policies related to image management, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and familiarity with medical imaging standards (e.g., DICOM, HL7).
- Assesses imaging modality capabilities across all Diagnostic Imaging on an ongoing basis to support technological advancements and clinical needs.
2. Project Management & Development Support
- Works collaboratively with customers, application developers, architects, project management, and team members to understand business requirements, driving the analysis and design of high-quality business solutions.
- Actively participates in the full system development lifecycle and is responsible for creating and maintaining project lifecycle documents/deliverables (e.g., vision document, supplemental specifications, user design, testing plan, testing schedule, testing scenarios, testing outcomes, approvals, and training materials).
- Manages job and project requirements to ensure projects are completed on time, in scope, within budget, and with minimal defects.
- Uses common project tools for planning, monitoring, implementing, and following up on project steps through closure and beyond.
- Assists with budget development and cost scheduling, utilizing planned resources effectively.
3. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Clearly communicates to stakeholders any downtime, upgrades, changes to workflow, and/or methods, working closely with departmental management staff to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
- Understands roles and relationships within the healthcare system and is proficient in speaking and interpreting medical terminology with healthcare professionals.
- Interfaces with business areas, customers, partners, vendors, technical staff, and project teams to drive value, enhance return on investment, and create innovative solutions. This includes providing alternative solutions, including vendor solution acquisitions, with maximum benefits while reducing costs (e.g., cost-benefit analysis, pros/cons of solutions).
4. Information Technology & Technical Support
- Assists with vendor management for all applicable imaging applications and systems.
- Receptive to learning new skills to expand effectiveness, including but not limited to transmission protocols, network configuration, server management, DICOM, and HL7.
- Implements and maintains hardware/software, including planned upgrades and updates.
- Able to retrieve data for key performance indicators or audits as requested.
- Provides required business and/or technical support for both project and production-related activities.
5. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Assures compliance with required standards and that all necessary approvals have been obtained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Is accountable for the comprehensive testing of solutions (e.g., testing plan, scenarios, documentation, defect management) to ensure minimal production and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) defects are realized.
- Interfaces closely with business and technical staff during all phases of the project, including unit and system testing, integration and UAT testing, culminating with implementation checkout and post-implementation support.
- May help to maintain documentation such as design documents, architecture, and flow diagrams.
Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned or required. Participates in an on-call rotation schedule with other team members.
EXPERIENCE
Required
- Information Systems or Technology
Preferred
- Experience in medical imaging systems administration, PACS administration, or a similar role within a healthcare environment.

SKILLS
- Proficiency with PACS, RIS, and EMR systems.
- Strong understanding of DICOM and HL7 standards.
- Familiarity with network configurations, transmission protocols, and server management.
- Experience with hardware and software implementation, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Ability to retrieve and analyze data for performance indicators.

Pay Range Minimum:
$58,100.00Pay Range Maximum:
$90,000.00Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations. The displayed salary range does not reflect any geographic differential Highmark may apply for certain locations based upon comparative markets.
