Title: Attorney - Removal Defense

Reports to: Litigation Practice Leader

Salary: $145,000 - $180,000, commensurate with experience

Job Description:

We are looking for a full-time Attorney for our complex removal practice. We represent clients in removal proceedings before the immigration courts, defending against removal and pursuing relief from removal, normally involving highly complex issues for investors. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of experience in removal proceedings before the immigration courts and a solid foundation in immigration law and litigation practice. Candidates with removal litigation experience on behalf of the federal government are welcome.

This position will report directly to the Litigation Practice Leader

This position is open to fully remote or hybrid work in Washington, DC, Philadelphia or New York offices.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the immigration courts, including master calendar and individual merits hearings
  • Review charging documents, administrative records and evidence to evaluate removability and help develop case strategy, including defenses and available forms of relief
  • Provide legal research and analysis on immigration issues arising in removal proceedings, especially for investment and employment based cases
  • Draft pleadings, motions, applications for relief and briefs for filing with the immigration courts
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for testimony, and conduct direct and cross-examination and legal argument before immigration judges
  • Assist with appeals and related filings, including drafting motions to reopen or reconsider and briefs to the Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Counsel clients on the removal process, risks and options, and communicate regularly with clients regarding procedural issues and case processing
  • Contribute to presentations on removal defense topics for internal and external audiences
  • Support the firm’s marketing and business development efforts in coordination with the firm’s marketing manager
  • Build a strong working knowledge of your client base and the law and procedures governing removal proceedings
  • Partner with colleagues to resolve client issues, share information and support client projects.


Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Bar admission
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in diverse removal proceedings before the immigration courts and a solid foundation in immigration law and litigation practice
  • Candidates with removal litigation experience on behalf of the federal government are welcome.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills and oral advocacy ability
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a client-friendly focus
  • Willingness to learn and take on added responsibilities
  • Ability to show initiative and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing demands
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Willingness to attend networking conferences and travel for business development opportunities as needed
