As an AU Senior Accountant, you will lead technical compliance, portfolio management, and quality assurance for Australian accounting firm clients. Designed for an experienced public practice leader, this remote day-shift role operates during Australian business hours. You will manage complex client portfolios (including SMEs and multi-entity family groups), review deliverables completed by graduate, junior, and intermediate accountants, and liaise directly with Australian onshore partners and clients to deliver strategic tax planning and advisory solutions.
Quality Assurance & Review: Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of tax returns, statutory financial statements, Activity Statements (BAS/IAS), and workpapers prepared by graduate, junior, and intermediate accounting staff.
Portfolio Management: Oversee diverse client portfolios encompassing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), family groups, high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and partnerships.
Client & Onshore Engagement: Liaise directly with Australian clients and onshore leaders on complex technical queries, compliance matters, and strategic tax planning initiatives.
Mentorship & Team Leadership: Mentor, train, and develop junior and intermediate accountants, providing structured coaching and technical guidance to foster team growth.
Advisory & Executive Support: Provide proactive technical support to accounting supervisors and partners on specialized advisory projects, business restructuring, and tax optimization strategies.
The Experience: 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience working in an Australian public accounting practice firm.
Technical Mastery: Solid technical expertise in Australian tax legislation, Division 7A, FBT, CGT concessions, trust distributions, and statutory financial reporting under Australian Accounting Standards.
Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Australian accounting software and tax systems (such as Xero, Xero Tax, MYOB, HandiSoft, APS, or Class Super).
Leadership & Coaching Capability: Proven experience in reviewing multi-entity workpapers, leading production workflows, and mentoring junior team members.
Communication Prowess: Superior written and verbal English communication and client relationship management skills, essential for leading complex discussions with Australian partners and business owners.
