Audit Seniors – Housing Associations

Location: South Africa (Remote) | UK Housing Association Audit Exposure | Contract Type: Seasonal Project | Start: April 2027 (February 2027 may be considered) | End: September 2027

GCO Partners connects high-calibre South African audit professionals with leading accounting firms across the UK. We are partnering with a UK accounting firm to build a dedicated team of approximately 10 auditors to support their Housing Association and social housing audit engagements during the 2027 audit season.

This is an opportunity for experienced Audit Seniors, as well as strong Semi-Seniors with relevant sector experience, to work with UK-based engagement teams while remaining in South Africa. You will contribute to high-quality audits, take ownership of audit fieldwork, and gain valuable international experience within the UK housing sector.

Please note: This is a seasonal engagement running approximately from April to the end of September each year, with an earlier start from February potentially available.

Why This Role Matters

You will work closely with UK-based managers and engagement teams, supporting audits for Housing Associations and organisations within the UK social housing sector. This is an opportunity to apply your existing UK audit experience in a specialised sector while strengthening your international exposure and working with an established UK accounting firm.

The role is suited to auditors who can step into engagements quickly, take ownership of their work, and contribute confidently during a busy audit period.

What's In It for You

  • Direct involvement in UK Housing Association and social housing audits
  • The opportunity to work remotely from South Africa while supporting a UK accounting firm
  • Exposure to UK audit methodologies, financial reporting frameworks and engagement teams
  • Opportunities to lead audit sections and take ownership of working papers
  • Collaboration with experienced UK-based managers and senior stakeholders
  • The potential to return for future audit seasons, providing continuity with the client
  • The opportunity to develop specialised experience in the UK social housing sector

What We're Looking For

  • A minimum of 3 years' external audit experience within a professional services firm
  • Previous experience auditing UK Housing Associations or organisations within the UK social housing sector
  • CA(SA), ACA or ACCA qualified; candidates working towards their qualification may be considered at Semi-Senior level
  • Strong technical audit skills and a sound understanding of audit methodologies and financial reporting standards
  • Experience preparing and reviewing audit working papers and financial statements
  • CaseWare Working Papers experience is advantageous
  • The ability to work independently, manage deadlines and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with UK-based teams
  • Availability for the project period, from April to the end of September 2027, with an earlier start from February potentially available

Who Thrives in This Role

Candidates who are:

  • Experienced auditors with direct exposure to UK Housing Association or social housing audits
  • Confident leading audit sections and taking ownership of fieldwork
  • Technically strong, detail-oriented and committed to audit quality
  • Comfortable working remotely with international teams and UK-based managers
  • Able to integrate quickly into existing engagements and work effectively with minimal ramp-up time
  • Reliable, organised and comfortable managing competing deadlines during a busy audit season
  • Interested in building a longer-term working relationship with a UK client through recurring seasonal engagements
