Job Description
Automation & Innovation Manager
New York, NY
Chicago, IL
About MiQ
MiQ is a global programmatic media partner that combines data science, analytics, and technology to help marketers make smarter advertising decisions. As we continue investing in AI and automation, we are looking for someone who can turn emerging technologies into practical solutions that improve how our teams work and make decisions.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on AI builder to lead the design and development of AI-powered applications, internal tools, and automation solutions across MiQ.
This is a technical people-manager role—not a pure project-management or research position. You will stay close to the technical details while architecting solutions, building applications, mentoring team members, and helping the business understand what is possible with modern AI technologies.
You will work with stakeholders across MiQ to identify opportunities for AI-enabled improvement, build scalable solutions, and help shape the company’s long-term approach to AI innovation. You will also lead and develop the existing Automation & Innovation team member, providing technical direction, prioritization, coaching, and career support.
What You’ll Do
Design and Build AI Applications
- Build and deploy AI-powered applications that improve productivity, decision-making, and operational efficiency.
- Develop solutions using large language models (LLMs), retrieval systems, agentic workflows, automation platforms, and modern AI frameworks.
- Rapidly prototype ideas and convert successful proofs of concept into production-ready applications.
- Partner with business stakeholders to solve real operational challenges through technology.
Lead Technical Solution Design
- Define architecture and technical approaches for AI and automation initiatives.
- Evaluate platforms, tools, and technologies to identify the best solution for each use case.
- Collaborate with internal and offshore development teams to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable.
- Establish best practices for application development, deployment, documentation, and governance.
Lead and Develop the Automation & Innovation Function
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership, prioritization, coaching, and development for the existing Automation & Innovation team member.
- Mentor teammates and elevate the quality, consistency, and delivery of solutions.
- Build a collaborative team culture focused on experimentation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance development, and capability building as the function grows.
Drive Innovation
- Identify opportunities to apply AI throughout MiQ’s workflows and operations.
- Stay current on emerging AI technologies and assess their potential business impact.
- Help shape the roadmap for internal AI products and capabilities.
- Champion a culture of experimentation, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
Partner Across the Business
- Work closely with Product, Analytics, Trading, Operations, and Commercial teams.
- Translate business needs into technical requirements and solution designs.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support adoption through training, documentation, and change management.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions architecture, AI/ML engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience designing and building production software applications.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and system design.
- Hands-on programming experience with Python and modern development frameworks.
- Experience working with AWS and modern data platforms such as Databricks.
- Experience integrating third-party systems and services through APIs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring developers or providing technical leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building AI-powered applications using LLMs and modern AI frameworks.
- Experience with agentic AI architectures and workflow orchestration.
- Experience with Retool or similar internal application development platforms.
- AdTech, MarTech, media, analytics, or programmatic advertising experience.
- Familiarity with MLOps and production AI deployment practices.
- Experience managing or developing technical team members.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to help define how AI is implemented across a global organization. You will have the freedom to experiment, build, and influence strategy while working on practical applications that deliver measurable business impact.
We are looking for someone who understands that great AI products are built on strong engineering fundamentals, thoughtful architecture, and a deep understanding of business needs.

Pay Transparency
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York City, MiQ is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to New York City and takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions, including skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
At MiQ, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current base compensation range for this position is $140,000 to $180,000.
This range may vary for positions outside of New York City because it has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled and does not include bonus or commission structures.
Regardless of location, candidates can expect MiQ’s Talent team and Hiring Managers to share any approved budget and details on our competitive bonus and commission packages during the first few conversations.
