At Orbital Paradigm, we design, develop, manufacture, and operate reusable orbital logistics systems. Our spacecraft perform multiple orbital mission profiles and return safely to Earth through hypersonic atmospheric reentry and landing with pinpoint accuracy for rapid refurbishment and reuse. Role Description We are looking for a Junior to Mid-Level Avionics Engineer to join our avionics team to support the design, development, integration, and qualification of avionics systems for our reusable orbital logistics vehicles. The role covers avionics architecture, on-board computers, electronic hardware, EEE parts selection, harnessing, electrical and data interfaces, EGSE, and verification activities. The engineer will work closely with systems, GNC, software, mechanical, and AIT teams to develop reliable avionics solutions for reusable spacecraft and support them from design through integration, testing, and qualification. Key Responsibilities Support the definition, design, and development of our spacecraft and systems' avionics architecture. Contribute to the design, manufacturing, integration, and testing of on-board computers, avionics hardware and electrical interfaces. Contribute to the selection of electronic components, units, sensors, actuators, connectors, and EEE parts Support harness design, routing, connector selection, pinout definition, and interface control. Manage electrical and data interfaces within spacecraft systems and between components Support grounding, bonding, shielding, EMC/EMI, and electrical compatibility considerations Support EGSE definition, development, integration, troubleshooting, and test automation Participate in avionics integration, functional testing, environmental testing, and qualification campaigns. Support debugging and root-cause analysis of avionics hardware, harnessing, and interface issues. Work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure avionics components meet technical and programmatic requirements. Develop and maintain avionics documentation, including schematics, interface control documents, test procedures, and verification reports. Contribute to design reviews, test readiness reviews, and qualification reviews. Required Qualifications 1–5 years of relevant professional experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-performance industries. Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related technical field. Experience with spacecraft avionics systems, flight electronics, or electrical/data interfaces for spacecraft or aerospace applications. Experience with electronic design, hardware integration, or avionics testing. Experience with laboratory and system-level measurements using advanced test equipment Expertise in board-level design, including schematics, PCB layout, simulation, testing, and validation Familiarity with harness design, electrical schematics, pinouts, grounding, shielding, and connector and components selection. Familiarity with EEE components, component selection, derating, availability, and reliability considerations. Knowledge of common communication protocols and interfaces such as CAN, RS-422/485, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, and SpaceWire. Understanding of verification and qualification processes for aerospace hardware. Ability to write clear technical documentation, test procedures, and reports. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work hands-on during integration and testing activities. Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams. Full proficiency in English, written and spoken. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with aerospace industry standards such as ECSS, NASA, or MIL Basic proficiency with one or more programming languages such as Python and MATLAB. Experience in a startup or small-company environment with fast design iterations. Experience with spacecraft avionics systems, flight electronics, on-board computers, sensors, actuators, or communication buses. Familiarity with EGSE design, test automation, data acquisition, or lab instrumentation. Experience with environmental testing, EMC/EMI testing, vibration testing, or thermal-vacuum testing. Familiarity with CAD or electrical design tools for schematics, harnessing, or PCB review. Expertise with radiation, thermal, vibration, and reliability constraints affecting electronic hardware in aerospace applications. Experience with supplier technical follow-up, component procurement, or hardware manufacturing support.
