Delft / hybrid | Direct employment | 40 hours | Total annual salary up to €85,000
For a Dutch SaaS company with an international customer base, I am looking for an AWS Cloud Engineer.
IMPORTANT: You must already live in the Netherlands and be able to work without employer sponsorship.
Permanent residence and partner/dependent permits with unrestricted work rights are accepted. HSM sponsorship, relocation and 30% tax ruling support are not available.
The position:
You will join a Platform team responsible for the AWS environments on which multiple business-critical SaaS applications run.
The main focus is operating and improving production cloud infrastructure. Together with the other engineers, you keep the environments secure, stable, available and up to date. At the same time, you automate and standardise the way the platform is managed.
This is a hands-on cloud engineering position with a strong operational core. You will investigate incidents, implement changes, perform maintenance and contribute to internal improvement projects involving automation, Infrastructure as Code, security, performance, cost control and reliability.
Infrastructure automation and CI/CD are important parts of the role, but always in support of a production platform. This is not a software-development position presented as DevOps, nor is it an architecture-only role.
Your responsibilities:
- Managing and changing production AWS environments.
- Monitoring availability, performance, capacity and security.
- Investigating complex incidents and recurring technical problems.
- Performing upgrades, maintenance and platform changes.
- Identifying root causes and implementing structural improvements.
- Building and maintaining infrastructure through Terraform.
- Automating operational activities with PowerShell, Bash or comparable scripting languages.
- Improving deployment and operational processes through CI/CD pipelines and YAML.
- Supporting application teams when workloads are deployed, changed or experience production issues.
- Contributing to internal projects around platform optimisation, standardisation, security and reliability.
- Documenting environments, technical decisions and operational processes.
- Sharing knowledge with other engineers.
You may contribute to designs and platform decisions, but you remain directly involved in implementation and day-to-day engineering.
The environment:
The AWS platform supports applications and customer workloads that have developed over many years. It is a mature production environment that must remain available while it is being modernised and improved.
Windows still plays an important role, particularly around existing application and database workloads. Linux is becoming increasingly important as the platform evolves.
The environment includes:
- AWS services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, load balancing and monitoring.
- Windows and Linux workloads.
- Terraform.
- PowerShell and Bash.
- Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and YAML.
- SQL-based application environments.
- Cloud networking, identity, security and high availability.
- Monitoring, logging and troubleshooting.
Your background:
You have substantial hands-on experience managing AWS or hybrid infrastructure in production.
You should be able to demonstrate:
- Several years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure, systems engineering or cloud operations.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and Infrastructure as a Service.
- Experience with Terraform or comparable Infrastructure as Code tooling.
- Experience supporting Windows and/or Linux production workloads.
- Scripting or automation experience, preferably with PowerShell or Bash.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, YAML and version control.
- Knowledge of networking, identity, access, security, monitoring and high availability.
- The ability to analyse complex problems and explain technical decisions clearly.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
You do not need to have worked with every technology listed. Your level will be assessed primarily on the complexity of the environments you have managed, the ownership you have carried and the improvements you have personally delivered.
Employment conditions:
- A total annual salary up to €85,000, including 8% holiday allowance and a thirteenth month.
- 27 vacation days.
- A pension scheme.
- Hybrid working, combining working from home with regular collaboration at the Delft or Utrecht office.
- Flexible working hours.
- Training and professional development opportunities.
- Laptop and equipment for your home workplace.
The initial employment contract is for a fixed period, with the intention of moving to a permanent contract afterwards.
A CV is sufficient to apply. Your profile will not be shared with the organisation without your knowledge and permission.
