Azure Platform Engineer

Position Summary

The Azure Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, building, automating, and operating the enterprise Azure cloud platform. This role enables development, integration, data, and business teams by providing secure, scalable, resilient, and reusable cloud services through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, platform engineering practices, and cloud governance.

The successful candidate will treat the Azure platform as a product, delivering self-service capabilities, standardized cloud patterns, automation pipelines, and operational excellence while ensuring compliance with enterprise security and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Platform Engineering

• Design, implement, and support enterprise Azure platform services including:
  • Networking
  • Identity and access management
  • Compute services
  • Storage services
  • Security controls
  • Monitoring and observability
• Build and maintain Azure Landing Zones aligned to Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and Azure Landing Zone (ALZ) principles.
• Develop reusable platform services and reference architectures that accelerate application delivery.
• Manage subscriptions, management groups, resource organization, and governance standards.
• Ensure platform availability, scalability, resilience, and performance across development, test, and production environments.
• Own the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of Azure Landing Zones, ensuring alignment with Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), Azure Landing Zone (ALZ) architecture, security requirements, and enterprise governance standards.
• Develop and maintain platform guardrails, subscription architectures, management group hierarchies, and standardized deployment patterns.
• Establish and enforce platform governance standards across all Azure environments.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Develop and maintain reusable Infrastructure as Code solutions using:
  • Bicep (preferred)
  • ARM Templates
  • Terraform (desirable)
• Implement infrastructure version control and code review practices.
• Integrate infrastructure deployments into CI/CD pipelines.
• Establish infrastructure standards, templates, and reusable modules.
• Promote GitOps and automated deployment methodologies.

DevOps & Platform Automation

• Design and support CI/CD pipelines using:
  • Azure DevOps
  • GitHub Actions
• Automate platform provisioning, configuration, patching, and operational tasks.
• Create self-service deployment capabilities for development teams.
• Build automation workflows and ChatOps integrations using Microsoft Teams and Power Platform where appropriate.
• Continuously improve deployment speed, reliability, and platform efficiency.

Cloud Governance & Security

• Implement and maintain:
  • Azure Policy
  • Management Groups
  • Resource Locks
  • Tagging Standards
  • Cost Controls
• Manage identity and access using:
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • RBAC
  • Privileged Identity Management (PIM)
  • Managed Identities
• Support security initiatives including:
  • Conditional Access
  • Defender for Cloud
  • Key Vault
  • Secure Secrets Management
• Collaborate with Security, Risk, and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and audit controls.
• Ensure security-by-design principles are embedded into platform services.
