Backend & AWS Developer
Contract Term: 12 months
Work Location: Calgary, AB. Hybrid OR Remote
We are hiring a Backend & Cloud Developer to build and operate the backend platform. You'll develop the Java and serverless APIs that support features and manage its AWS infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
This role combines new project delivery and feature development with ongoing production operations, including participation in a 24×7 on-call rotation.
With a strong focus on AWS and its IaC, you'll own backend services and their cloud infrastructure end to end—from developing new capabilities to operating and supporting them in production.
Infrastructure and IaC Development
Extensive hands-on AWS infrastructure experience is required, including ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, IAM, VPC, ALB, S3, and ECR, as well as container technologies.
Strong experience developing and managing infra as code using Terraform is required.
AWS Developer or Solutions Architect certifications at the Associate or Professional level, as applicable, and other relevant AWS certifications are strongly preferred.
Application Development
Microservice stack: Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.2, including Spring Data JPA, Redis caching, and OpenAPI.
Serverless application stack: Node.js 22/24 and TypeScript on AWS Lambda.
Data technologies: Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and ElastiCache / Redis.
Other Requirements
Extensive experience applying modern cybersecurity best practices is required.
Extensive experience with modern software development lifecycle (SDLC) and AI-driven development lifecycle (AIDLC) practices is required.
Proficiency with AI coding tools such as Copilot is required, including code review, code completion, prompt engineering, and creating reusable AI skills.
Experience with Confluent Kafka is strongly preferred.
Experience developing applications using large language models (LLMs), including through services such as Amazon Bedrock, is strongly preferred.
