Backend Developer

PlusMinusOne is a mobile startup studio that focuses on developing and marketing its own apps that are used and loved by millions of people around the world. Our products collectively reach more than a half-million new users every month in the US market alone. Our team works in hybrid model with offices in San Francisco and Istanbul. We have been building mobile products focused on Business, Photo & Video, and Education categories in the App Store mainly for the US market since 2016. And in each of these categories, our goal is the same: provide actual value to people with the best mobile user experience. We’re in an exciting period of growth and are looking for Backend Developer who will help us shape the future of mobile. What we are looking for: 3+ years building production backend services with Node.js / TypeScript (NestJS is a plus) Solid experience with PostgreSQL and Redis — schema design, indexing, query performance Experience designing and building REST APIs Comfortable with Docker and containerized deployments; hands-on Kubernetes experience is a strong plus Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and designing CI/CD pipelines Working knowledge of AWS (EKS, RDS, S3, IAM, Secrets Manager) Able to debug real problems from logs and metrics (Prometheus / Grafana) Strong grasp of clean architecture and fundamental design principles for scalable systems Strong analytical and time management skills, and a track record of working well in an agile team Product-minded: you care about the user impact of what you ship, and you're comfortable pushing back on requirements when something doesn't make sense Great bonus if you have: Event streaming and data pipelines: Kafka, CDC (Debezium), ClickHouse or BigQuery GitOps with ArgoCD, autoscaling with Karpenter / KEDA Integrating LLM APIs into real products (RAG, evaluation, cost/latency trade-offs) Python for tooling and data work Your responsibilities will be: Building backend services for our mobile and web products from the ground up Designing and refining integrations between our applications and third-party services Deploying and operating services on Kubernetes — scaling, tuning and keeping them healthy in production Owning what you ship: monitoring, alerting and debugging your services in production Working with our event and data pipelines that power product analytics Bringing new technology and ideas to the table Influencing cross-team initiatives and mentoring mid-level and junior backend engineers Participating in planning, estimating tasks, reviewing code and pairing with teammates What we offer: Opportunity to make an impact on millions of global users' life and the future of mobile Chance to be a part of a passionate and driven team where everyone’s ideas are valued A hybrid work environment with 3 days a week at the Kabataş Istanbul office Extra 5 days of PM1 paid vacation from the first year, increasing with seniority Performance-based bonus paid twice a year Ability to own a stock option after the first year Private health insurance package Lunch and transportation allowance Reimbursement package for any education, course, sports activities, hobbies, etc. A Macbook, iPhone, magic mouse, magic keyboard, and any other hardware that you need to deliver your best work.
