Backend Engineer, Field Data

Tunen is a venture-backed startup taking the friction out of collecting farm data, so it can be used to build foundational agricultural datasets. Our products run on farms in Germany, Poland and Belgium and are rolling out to 10,000 farmers by early 2027.

The role

You will own the backend of one of Tunen's new live products, reporting directly to the founders. It processes unstructured farm data at scale and produces clean, domain-valid structured outputs.

What you will do

- Own the parser that turns farm documents never meant for software into structured data that holds up agronomically, not just syntactically.

- Make one parser serve different customers and parts of agriculture, configured per domain rather than copied per customer.

- Own extraction quality: evaluation sets, metrics, and the call on whether a model or prompt change is actually better.

- Turn domain and product requirements into data contracts and agronomic rules, so a value that can't be true on a farm is rejected even when well formed.

- Build features and fix bugs in the Python codebase, including groundwork for a new sensor-data optimisation project.

- Review code and learn from the reviews you get.

What we look for

- 3+ years building and running software in production.

- You ship end to end and own the result.

- Some Python experience.

- You use language models as part of how you write code, professionally.

- On site in Madrid. Proficient English.
