Lead Software Engineer

Tunen is a venture-backed startup taking the friction out of collecting farm data, so it can be used to build foundational agricultural datasets. We build for farmers, equipment makers (OEMs) and food manufacturers. Our products run on farms in Germany, Poland and Belgium and are rolling out to 10,000 farmers by early 2027.

The role

You will lead one of Tunen's most important projects, reporting directly to the founders and managing a team of four. The project covers the app farmers use every day, our real-time sensor processing pipeline, real-time two-way sync with partner platforms, and our in-house domain-specific LLM chat and harness product.

What you will do

- Own reliability of the live product; set up on-call and the incident process.

- Lead real-time two-way sync with partner platforms. Records change on both sides and are used for compliance, so nothing can be lost, duplicated or silently overwritten.

- Keep background GPS tracking reliable on Android and iOS, and own the pipeline that turns traces into work done per field.

- Shape the harness around our agronomic assistant.

- Grow the team from four to eight: screening, interviewing, onboarding.

- Set how the team works: code review, testing, and practices for LLM-generated code.

- Set engineering direction and argue design trade-offs openly.

What we look for

- 6+ years building software, at least 2 leading engineers while still shipping.

- Full-stack understanding; years of Python services in production in the cloud.

- You use language models as part of how you write code.

- Rigorous and opinionated; you challenge decisions in the open.

- You have grown a team and know how to hire.

- In Madrid or willing to move. Proficient English.

Nice to have

- Flutter or another mobile stack; native Android/iOS background location and foreground services.

- Geospatial data: GPS traces, field boundaries, satellite imagery.

- Agriculture, or any domain where data comes from people who don't sit at desks.
