Backend .NET Developer with Data Platform Experience

As a Backend .NET Developer with Data Platform experience, you will primarily design and build modern backend applications and services using .NET and Microsoft Azure.

You will also contribute to data-driven solutions by integrating backend services with modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric or Databricks. This role is a good fit for an experienced backend developer who wants to broaden their experience in data engineering and work across application, integration and data platform responsibilities.

You will:

• Design, develop and maintain reliable, maintainable and well-tested backend applications and services using C#, .NET and Microsoft Azure
• Build and integrate REST APIs, distributed services and data-driven applications
• Integrate backend services with modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric or Databricks
• Contribute to the development of data pipelines, data transformations and data integration solutions
• Develop data processing, automation and integration logic using Python and SQL
• Work with relational databases and modern data architectures, including data lake, lakehouse and data warehouse solutions
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
• Work directly with technical and business stakeholders to understand and refine requirements
• Collaborate closely with distributed project teams using Agile methodologies
• Contribute to engineering quality through automated testing, code reviews, technical feedback and knowledge sharing
• Contribute to AI-enabled solutions where relevant, particularly integrations between backend services, data platforms and Microsoft Azure AI services
• Work on projects across a range of industries and business domains

Skills and experience

Required skills

Backend development

• At least 3 years of commercial software development experience using C# and .NET
• Experience building backend applications and APIs using ASP.NET Core
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and distributed services
• Practical experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based application development
• Experience with relational databases (e.g. SQL Server / Azure SQL)
• Knowledge of automated testing, clean code principles, design patterns and modern software architecture
• Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions

Data platforms and integration

• Commercial experience contributing to data pipelines, data transformations or data integration solutions
• Hands-on experience with at least one of the following data platforms:
  • Microsoft Fabric, including Data Factory, Lakehouse or related data workloads
  • Databricks, preferably Azure Databricks
• Practical experience using Python for data processing, automation or system integration
• Strong SQL skills for querying, transforming and validating data
• Understanding of core data engineering concepts, including:
  • ETL and ELT
  • Data modelling
  • Data quality
  • Data lake, lakehouse and data warehouse architectures
  • Data governance

General

• Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and business stakeholders
• Willingness to work across backend development, system integration and data platform responsibilities
• English language skills at B2 level or higher, as English is used in daily communication

Nice to have

• Experience with both Microsoft Fabric and Databricks
• Practical knowledge of PySpark and Apache Spark concepts
• Experience with Data Factory (Microsoft Fabric or Azure) and lake storage such as OneLake, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 or Delta Lake
• Familiarity with Unity Catalog or similar data governance capabilities
• Experience with messaging and event-driven architecture, such as Azure Service Bus or Azure Event Hubs
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration using Docker or Kubernetes
• Experience contributing to AI-enabled applications or data solutions, e.g. using Microsoft AI services or Copilot Studio
• Experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Claude Code
• Knowledge of frontend technologies such as React or Angular
