Contract: Permanent

THE POWER OF NOW

Fortescue Zero develops, tests and deploys technology to help decarbonise industry. As Fortescue’s green technology and engineering business, it works across areas including power systems, motorsport, battery intelligence and autonomous fleet solutions.

We’re looking for a Battery Systems Engineer to join Elysia, Fortescue Zero’s battery intelligence business. You’ll lead the technical delivery of customer workstreams, combining battery insight, hands-on analysis and clear customer communication to help turn complex evidence into practical recommendations.

Elysia develops battery software and analytics to help improve the safety, reliability, performance and lifespan of battery systems. Its solutions combine expertise in electrochemistry, battery systems and data science, and are used in applications including automotive, energy storage and heavy industry.

Working across cloud-based analytics and embedded battery management systems, Elysia helps customers better understand and manage their battery assets. Its work draws on more than a decade of battery expertise and experience shaped by high-performance electric vehicles and real-world operating environments.

How we work

At Fortescue Zero, we push the boundaries of engineering to develop technology for real-world challenges, from motorsport to mining. At Elysia, we bring together expertise in battery systems, electrochemistry and data science to develop battery intelligence solutions. Fortescue is committed to an inclusive workplace where people are supported to bring their perspectives and do their best work.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will:

  • Own a small number of customer workstreams and act as the day-to-day technical contact
  • Understand customer problems, operating context and the decisions the analysis needs to support; plan delivery and coordinate Data Scientists with the right context
  • Work directly with customer datasets and use Python to explore data, test assumptions and investigate technical questions
  • Review code, methods, metrics and model outputs; carry out further analysis or simulation when needed
  • Connect battery metrics to degradation, failure modes and operating conditions, then explain confidence, limitations and practical next steps
  • Keep work organised and traceable, and share recurring needs with Product and Development

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring a strong technical foundation and the judgement to connect analysis with customer needs. You’ll also have:

Essential

  • A background in battery systems, diagnostics, degradation, battery analytics, BMS, modelling, electrochemistry, simulation or a related technical discipline
  • Experience applying technical data, models, algorithms, metrics or analytical outputs in an applied engineering or customer-facing setting
  • Practical experience with Python or equivalent analytical programming, including writing, adapting or reviewing analysis code
  • Ability to interpret evidence and explain conclusions, assumptions, uncertainty and limitations clearly
  • Experience coordinating work across engineers, analysts or Data Scientists, and working with customers or external technical stakeholders
  • A relevant STEM degree or equivalent technical experience

Desirable

  • Knowledge of lithium-ion degradation, battery ageing, state estimation, anomaly detection, remaining useful life prediction or battery safety
  • Experience with battery fleets, telematics, cloud analytics, predictive maintenance, condition monitoring or field performance
  • Experience with simulation, sensitivity analysis, hypothesis testing or large operational datasets
  • Familiarity with FMEA, fault tree analysis, root cause analysis or reliability engineering
  • Experience in automotive, energy storage, mining, motorsport, aerospace or other complex engineering environments

About you

You’re interested in pioneering technology and its potential to support a more sustainable future. You’re motivated by the opportunity to contribute to work with real-world impact and help advance battery intelligence.

Benefits

Benefits include, subject to eligibility and scheme rules:

  • Bonus scheme
  • Aviva workplace pension
  • Group life assurance
  • Group income protection
