Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a three (3) candidates for the Mobile Crisis Response Clinician II position for the (MCR) Mobile Crisis Response Program. This program provides a rapid response, assessment, and early intervention to residents and visitors in the City of Virginia Beach, City of Norfolk, and the Eastern Shore of Virginia when they experience a behavioral health crisis. Services will assist individuals experiencing a crisis or escalating emotional/behavioral symptoms which have impacted their ability to function in their family, living situation, community, school, or work environment.
Qualified candidates must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). The ideal candidate will have experience working with crisis work as the primary job function, experience working with adults with mental health and substance use disorders and with completing complex assessments and evaluations.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to calls through the Region Crisis Hub System by providing Community Crisis services to adult non-hospitalized individuals experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis to avert hospitalization or re-hospitalization by mobilizing resources of the community and natural support systems for ongoing maintenance and rehabilitation.
- Complete clinical documentation and assures that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the time frame required.
- Provide immediate crisis response to individuals, to include direst face to face service with the identifies individual in need and/or family, collateral contacts and other billable services.
- Complete intake assessments, crisis intervention specific assessments, obtain mental health history, and formulate diagnoses as well as update diagnoses as needed.
- Generate preliminary Crisis Education and Prevention Plan (CEPP), crisis intervention specific assessments, obtain mental health history, and formulate diagnoses as well as update diagnoses as needed with client/family at the time of the initial contact.
- Provide ongoing assessments for changes in the client’s mental status and provide therapeutic crisis interventions and/or referrals based on the changing needs of the client.
- Serve specialized populations and/or serve in specialized roles.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 2pm - 10:30pm including some Holidays and Weekends.
Afternoon/evening schedules associated with this position are eligible for shift differential pay according to City policy 2.08.
And here's the exciting part - the selected candidate will qualify for a $4,000 hiring bonus! **
**Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original full-time employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- $1,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- $1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
This position is also eligible to receive a $5000 annual stipend to be paid in installments over 26 pay periods.

Preferences:
- Experience assessing risk factors for individuals that are in crisis to determine appropriate level of care.
- Experience assessing for risk of self-harm, suicide, and harm to others.
- Experience completing intake assessments, treatment plans and safety plans.
- Experience providing Mentoring/ Mental Health Skill Building and/or Intensive In-Home Services.
- Experience working in varied settings such as schools, homes, emergency departments, and public agencies.
- Experience providing ongoing psychotherapy demonstrating knowledge of child/adolescent or adult psychopathology, treatment modalities, crisis intervention, discharge planning and service coordination.
- Experience working non-traditional hours (mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed on a rotating basis).

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and three (3) years’ experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as Mental Health Counselor, Special Education Teacher, or Social Worker OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience and training equivalent to seven (7) years in fields providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
