We are UMG, the Universal Music Group. We are the world’s leading music company. In everything we do, we are committed to artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship. We own and operate a broad array of businesses engaged in recorded music, music publishing, merchandising, and audiovisual content in more than 60 countries. We identify and develop recording artists and songwriters, and we produce, distribute and promote the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful music to delight and entertain fans around the world.
How we lead:
Audience, marketing, and eCommerce data are becoming more deeply ingrained with music every day. For artists, it’s a way to develop and further articulate their brand. For fans, it’s another pathway to connecting with an artist and the culture they represent.
UMG’s Global Reporting & Analytics team within the Global eCommerce & Marketing group is looking for a BI Analyst Co-op to support reporting products, analysis, and insight delivery for internal, label, and artist management audiences.
How You’ll Create:
- Serve an instrumental role in the lifecycle of a reporting product, from stakeholder kick-off through business enablement.
- Work with label, marketing, eCommerce, and operations teams to understand business needs, gather requirements, and document findings.
- Design advanced, compelling, actionable data visualizations for a variety of different stakeholder audiences, including C-Suite, with light customization for artist-specific reporting.
- Leverage your data-oriented mindset, instincts, and curiosity to identify the signals, trends, and meaningful information from an array of datasets.
- Support adoption and reliable operation of reporting products by monitoring scheduled reports, updating dashboards, performing regular data QA, and troubleshooting data or visualization issues.
- Support the development of data models and reporting pipelines by integrating source data, applying SQL transformations, and preparing datasets for BI reporting.
- Perform data validation and QA to ensure accuracy and consistency of KPIs across dashboards and reporting outputs.
- Contribute to documentation efforts, including maintaining data dictionaries, KPI definitions, and reporting guidelines.
- Contribute to exploring and prototyping AI-enabled reporting capabilities, including natural-language interfaces and agentic workflows that help stakeholders access and interact with data.
Bring Your Vibe:
- Currently pursuing a master’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Architecture and Management, or Data Analytics Engineering.
- BI tool: High-level proficiency with a BI tool such as Tableau or Power BI and experience building or maintaining dashboards (Looker Studio/Enterprise interface familiarity and an interest in learning LookML are a plus).
- SQL: Working knowledge of SQL and relational data concepts, including joins, keys, and table grain.
- Web technologies: Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS; experience with React is a plus.
- Version control: Familiarity with Git and GitHub, or another version-control platform, is a plus.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Exceptionally detail-oriented with polished written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to craft actionable and compelling stories from large/disparate datasets and make complex concepts/analysis easy to understand.
- Be a critical thinker who values the importance of always putting data into the appropriate context.
- Demonstrated ability to independently learn new technical concepts and tools through research, experimentation, and appropriate use of AI tools.
- Must love music, be a team player, and have a hunger to learn.
- Preferred: Experience with paid media, CDP, and/or CRM data/tools.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Google BigQuery or another cloud data warehouse.
- Preferred: Experience prototyping AI-powered conversational analytics tools that translate natural-language questions into business data using agentic workflows.
