Billing Manager - 12 Month FTC

The Billing Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day leadership and management of Pinergy’s Billing Operations, ensuring accurate, timely, efficient, and compliant billing across both Residential and Commercial customers.
Reporting to the COO, the Billing Manager will lead a team of 5 billing professionals and provide strong operational leadership throughout this 12-month contract period. The role will ensure continuity and stability across the billing function, with a strong focus on billing accuracy, revenue assurance, cash collection, operational control, customer outcomes, and continuous improvement.
The role requires strong knowledge of energy billing and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced and changing environment. Working closely with Finance, Customer Operations, Business Support, Sales Operations, IT, and other stakeholders, the Billing Manager will resolve operational issues, strengthen controls, improve processes, and identify opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5 billing professionals, managing performance, workload, priorities, and resources to ensure high-quality delivery and a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Own and oversee the end-to-end billing operation for Residential and Commercial customers, ensuring accurate and timely billing, invoicing, adjustments, statements, revenue assurance, and income collection.
• Maintain strong billing controls and governance, ensuring processes are documented, monitored, compliant, and effective in minimising errors, leakage, rework, financial risk, and customer impact.
• Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, exceptions, revenue assurance issues, and escalations, working closely with Finance and relevant operational teams to ensure timely resolution.
• Manage annual tariff and rate changes and other billing changes, ensuring appropriate planning, testing, validation, documentation, and implementation within required timelines.
• Work closely with IT and technology teams on billing system releases, defects, change requests, testing, and prioritisation of system improvements, ensuring changes are implemented effectively.
• Drive continuous improvement across billing operations by identifying opportunities to simplify, standardise, automate, and improve processes, with a focus on efficiency, billing accuracy, customer outcomes, and cost to serve.
• Identify root causes of recurring billing issues and implement sustainable improvements to strengthen operational performance and reduce reliance on manual intervention.
• Build strong relationships across Finance, Customer Operations, Business Support, Sales Operations, IT, and other stakeholders, acting as a billing subject matter expert for complex queries, escalations, and new requirements.
• Ensure billing-related customer issues are managed proactively and resolved within appropriate timescales, maintaining a strong focus on customer trust and experience.
• Own and monitor key billing KPIs covering accuracy, exceptions, queries, resolution, revenue assurance, cash collection, operational efficiency, and customer impact.
• Analyse billing and income data to identify trends, risks, root causes, and improvement opportunities, providing clear performance insights and recommendations to the COO and relevant senior stakeholders.
• Support the COO in delivering wider billing transformation, operational improvement, and strategic initiatives, ensuring continuity and effective leadership throughout the 12-month contract period.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
• 5–7+ years' relevant experience in Billing Operations, Energy Billing, Utilities, Finance Operations, Revenue Assurance, or a related environment.
• Proven experience managing and developing operational teams.
• Strong knowledge of energy billing processes and the Irish energy market.
• Strong understanding of billing controls, revenue assurance, cash collection, and financial processes.
• Experience managing billing changes, system releases, testing, defects, and operational change.
• Good understanding of risk, governance, compliance, and operational controls.
• Demonstrated ability to identify root causes, improve processes, and implement sustainable change.
• Strong analytical skills and high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Hands-on and pragmatic approach, with the ability to move between strategic oversight and operational detail.
Desirable:
• Third-level qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business, Operations, or a related discipline.
• Experience with DUoS, TUoS, PSO, tariff/rate changes, or other regulated energy market processes.
• Experience with energy billing platforms and related operational systems.
• Experience working with Finance, Revenue Assurance, Credit & Collections, or regulatory teams.
• Experience leading billing system implementations, automation, or process transformation.
• Professional qualification in Accounting, Finance, Energy, Operations, or a related discipline.
