CEDARVILLE ENGINEERING GROUP
Biologist II
Get in the Field. Get the Data Right. Support the Mission.
About CEG
Cedarville Engineering Group (CEG) delivers design-build civil infrastructure and environmental remediation projects for federal agencies, including work on active military installations. Our projects directly support national defense, environmental restoration, and resilient infrastructure. We are a 50-person firm with offices in Pottstown, PA and Tampa, FL.
The Role
We are seeking a Biologist II for a remote position to support a variety of government projects. In this role, you will serve as a technical lead and mentor other Environmental professionals. This is a hands-on, field-and-remote role in a lean firm where flexibility matters — one week you are conducting biological surveys in the field, the next you are writing the report that backs them up.
This is field biology work on real government projects:
- Biological surveys and natural resource inventories on government and military project sites
- Field data collection that holds up to scrutiny
- Report writing and technical documentation
- Technical leadership and mentoring of other Environmental professionals
- Natural resource and stormwater management project support, including invasive species, forestry, and threatened & endangered species work
- Remote position with approximately 25% travel to project sites
What This Role Really Is
You are the person who gets the data right.
You ensure:
- Field surveys and inventories are conducted and documented to protocol
- Findings are recorded accurately and reported clearly
- Deadlines are met without cutting corners on quality or safety
- Other Environmental professionals are mentored, supported, and set up to succeed
We are looking for an experienced biologist ready to lead, and we will continue to invest in you. CEG provides training and supports the certifications you need to do the work — including OSHA certifications if you don't already hold them.
What You'll Do
Field Work & Biological Surveys
- Conduct invasive species surveys, mapping, and management on government and military project sites following established protocols
- Conduct threatened & endangered species inventories and associated habitat assessments
- Perform herbaceous studies, forestry inventories, and tree surveys, and maintain accurate field notes and logs
- Operate field survey, GPS, and monitoring equipment
- Support and lead site investigations, ecological monitoring, and natural resource management activities
Reporting & Documentation
- Write clear, accurate technical reports, field summaries, and supporting documentation
- Compile, organize, and quality-check field and survey data
- Review and quality-check reports, field data, and deliverables prepared by other Environmental professionals
- Contribute to permit applications, regulatory submittals, and project deliverables
Natural Resource & Stormwater Projects
- Support natural resource management projects, including Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans (INRMPs), wetlands, habitat, and environmental assessments
- Support stormwater management projects and MS4 and related regulatory compliance efforts
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and interdisciplinary teams to keep work moving
Technical Leadership & Mentoring
- Serve as a technical lead on field investigations, biological survey programs, and reporting tasks
- Mentor, train, and guide other Environmental professionals in field procedures, species identification, data quality, and technical writing
- Provide technical direction and review to ensure work products meet project, client, and regulatory requirements
- Support project managers with task planning, scheduling, and coordination of field staff
Health & Safety
- Follow all site health and safety plans and federal installation requirements
- Obtain and maintain OSHA certifications (HAZWOPER, OSHA 10/30/40 as applicable) — CEG will provide training if not already in place
- Lead by example to help keep the field team safe and compliant on every site
What You Bring
Education (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field
Experience
- 3–5 years of professional biology experience
- Field biology and natural resource project experience, including technical report writing, invasive species management, herbaceous studies, forestry inventories / tree surveys and threatened & endangered species inventories
- Wetland & waterway delineation and report development
- GIS data collection, analysis and management. Proficient in ArcGIS.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical lead and mentor other Environmental professionals
- Comfortable working outdoors and in the field across varying conditions and terrain
Certifications
- OSHA certifications (HAZWOPER, OSHA 10/30/40) required for fieldwork — CEG will provide training to obtain them if not already held
- Valid driver's license
Preferred
- Prior experience on federal or government projects
- Experience with Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans (INRMPs)
- Regulatory permitting including PA Chapter 102 & 105 and US Army Corps Section 404
- Familiarity with natural resource surveys and stormwater management programs
- Strong technical writing skills — turning field data into a clean report is a real plus
Capabilities
- Strong written communication — writing skills are a real differentiator in this role
- Flexible and willing to take on a variety of tasks as project needs change
- Detail-oriented and disciplined about data quality and documentation
- Able to work independently in the field, lead technical work, and collaborate with the team
- Committed to mentoring and developing other Environmental professionals
- Willingness to travel (approximately 25%) and to obtain access to secured federal and military installations
What Matters Here – Our Core Values
- Responsive – You communicate clearly and act quickly
- Driven – You take ownership of outcomes
- Problem-Solver – You fix gaps, not just document them
- Growth Mindset – You keep learning and take on new skills as the work demands
- No Assholes – We hold the line and treat people right
If you want to sit at a desk and never get your boots dirty, this is not the place for you.
If you take pride in getting the data right — in the field, on the page, and in helping others do the same — you'll fit.
Work Environment
- Remote position — work from home when not in the field
- Field work on government and military project sites
- Approximately 25% travel
- Work supports projects on secured federal and military installations
- Must be able to pass a federal background check
- REAL ID required
- Able to perform physical fieldwork, including lifting equipment and working outdoors in varying conditions
Why This Role Matters
The data you collect and the reports you write are the foundation of every environmental decision on the project.
Your role ensures:
- Our clients and the government can trust the findings we deliver
- Projects stay on schedule and on the right side of regulations
- Other Environmental professionals grow into strong, capable practitioners
- The environments we protect and restore — including those on active military installations — are safeguarded for the mission and the future
