About GYMVERSE
GYMVERSE is an Athens-based startup building the next generation of strength and conditioning equipment. Our first product, Gymverse One, is an adaptive full-body training system that combines strength and cardio in one machine. Its active resistance reads the user's movement and adjusts in real time, and it tracks every rep and session. Upper and lower body move in a synchronized motion, and the machine is designed for joint-friendly training that supports long-term health.
We're a small team of founders with backgrounds in fitness, product development, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Gymverse One is now in prototype phase, and we're looking for a biomechanics expert to help us make sure every movement the machine guides is safe, effective and backed by evidence.
The role
As our Biomechanics Advisor, you'll work directly with our engineers to refine how Gymverse One moves and to validate the thinking behind the product. You'll review how the machine guides the body, challenge our assumptions, and turn biomechanical insight into concrete design requirements. This is a flexible, hourly engagement, and your input will directly shape a product before it reaches athletes.
What you'll do
- Analyze the movement patterns of Gymverse One, including range of motion, joint angles, movement paths and the coordination between upper and lower body.
- Advise on how resistance should behave through each movement, including resistance curves, the loaded stretch at the end of the range, and how the adaptive resistance should respond to fatigue and speed.
- Identify risks of joint stress or unsafe loading, and recommend changes to the machine's geometry, settings or limits.
- Help the machine accommodate a wide range of users, including different body sizes, ages, training levels and mobility.
- Design and run testing protocols with prototypes and test users.
- Translate your findings into clear, practical requirements our mechanical, electrical and software engineers can act on.
- Advise on which movement metrics the machine should track and report to users.
What we're looking for
- An MSc or PhD in biomechanics, kinesiology, sports science, biomedical engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with human movement analysis, ideally including motion capture, EMG or force measurement.
- A strong understanding of resistance training: exercise mechanics, muscle activation and joint loading.
- The ability to explain biomechanical concepts clearly to engineers, and to work with practical design constraints.
- An independent, structured way of working, comfortable with flexible, project-based hours.
Nice to have
- Experience developing or testing fitness equipment, rehabilitation devices or wearables.
- A background in physiotherapy, strength and conditioning coaching, or clinical exercise science.
- Published research in exercise biomechanics.
- Greek language skills.
Engagement details
- Paid per hour, depending on experience.
- Hybrid: in-person sessions with the machine at our Athens office for testing and reviews, with remote work for analysis and reporting.
- You'll work directly with our product development and engineering team.
