The Opportunity

Aspire is seeking an experienced Bodily Injury & Litigation Manager to lead our Bodily Injury and Litigation claims operation.

Reporting to the Vice President of Claims, this leader will oversee a team of BI and Litigation professionals responsible for complex bodily injury claims, serious injury exposures, and litigated matters. This position will play a critical role in developing litigation strategy, driving appropriate claim outcomes, controlling legal and indemnity costs, managing defense counsel and other external partners, and ensuring consistent, high-quality claim handling.

The ideal candidate brings significant auto claims leadership experience, extensive bodily injury and litigation expertise, and a strong understanding of California claims practices and regulations. Experience within non-standard auto insurance is highly preferred.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead, coach, develop, and manage a team of Bodily Injury and Litigation claims professionals.
  • Oversee complex bodily injury, serious injury, and litigated claims from strategy through resolution.
  • Review significant exposures and provide direction on claim handling, litigation strategy, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement.
  • Establish and grant appropriate settlement authority within company guidelines.
  • Partner with adjusters and Claims leadership on complex BI and litigation matters.
  • Ensure claims are investigated, evaluated, documented, and resolved in accordance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Manage defense counsel and outside vendors, including law firms, medical and records review providers, expert witnesses, and litigation support vendors.
  • Monitor litigation expenses, legal spend, indemnity exposure, and vendor performance with a focus on quality and cost containment.
  • Conduct regular file reviews to ensure appropriate reserving, strategy, documentation, and progression toward resolution.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding bodily injury evaluation, coverage considerations, venues, litigation procedures, and negotiation strategy.
  • Identify trends and opportunities to improve claim processes, workflows, systems, and overall department performance.
  • Develop and strengthen training programs for BI/Litigation team members and the broader Claims organization.
  • Establish appropriate workloads and staffing levels while monitoring individual and team performance.
  • Interview and select high-performing BI and Litigation professionals as the team grows.
  • Support claims operations outside California and additional programs or lines of business as needed.
  • Provide timely reporting and updates to senior Claims leadership regarding significant claims, emerging issues, litigation trends, and department performance.

What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ years of Property & Casualty insurance experience, with significant experience in auto claims.
  • Extensive hands-on experience handling bodily injury, serious injury, complex exposure, and litigated auto claims.
  • Strong knowledge of the litigation lifecycle, including defense strategy, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, trial preparation, and defense counsel management.
  • Previous Auto Claims Supervisor or Manager experience, ideally overseeing BI and/or Litigation professionals.
  • 5+ years of claims leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience handling or leading California auto claims strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Arizona claims is a plus.
  • Non-standard auto insurance experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex exposures and make sound decisions regarding reserves, settlement strategy, authority, and litigation direction.
  • Strong understanding of insurance industry regulations, practices, standards, and terminology.
  • Proven ability to manage third-party defense counsel and litigation-related vendors while controlling costs.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, performance management, and team-development skills.
  • Excellent judgment, analytical ability, organization, written communication, and decision-making skills.

This is an opportunity to take a leadership role in a critical area of our Claims organization. You will have the ability to influence BI and litigation strategy, develop talent, improve processes, manage significant exposures, and directly impact claim outcomes and organizational performance.

Working & Physical Conditions:

  • Fast-paced professional office environment with extended computer use and sitting.
  • Requires strong attention to detail while managing multiple priorities.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
