About the Role
The Bookkeeper maintains accurate financial records, processes day-to-day transactions, supports payroll, and ensures compliance with Australian tax and reporting requirements, keeping the business's finances accurate, current, and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices, reconcile statements, and schedule payments
- Raise customer invoices and follow up on overdue accounts
- Maintain accurate creditor and debtor records
Reconciliations & Ledger
- Perform bank, cash, and credit card reconciliations
- Process journals and reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Maintain the chart of accounts and support month-end/year-end close
Payroll
- Process payroll accurately and on time, including leave and entitlements
- Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with relevant awards/legislation
BAS & Compliance
- Prepare Business Activity Statement (BAS) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) data, reconcile accordingly
- Maintain Australian Taxation Office (ATO) compliance and support external accountants during audits
Reporting
- Prepare management, cash flow, and budgeting/forecasting reports as needed
General Support
- Maintain financial filing/document systems
- Support insurance, licensing, and internal financial controls
Success Measures
Accuracy and timeliness across reconciliations, payments, payroll, and BAS/reporting deadlines.
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (essential); Diploma or BAS Agent registration (desirable)
- 3+ years' bookkeeping experience
- Proficient in Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks
- Construction/trade industry experience a plus
Skills & Competencies
- Strong grasp of GST, BAS, payroll, and superannuation obligations
- Advanced Excel skills
- High attention to detail, organization, and time management
- Able to work independently with strong communication and confidentiality
Authority
Processes routine transactions and payment run (for approval), accesses accounting/payroll systems, and liaises with suppliers, customers, and external accountants within approved guidelines.
