The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Aquaculture Manager to lead aquaculture operations, production planning, aquatic animal health, water-quality management, feeding programs, biosecurity, facility performance, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will combine practical aquaculture expertise with strong operational leadership, data analysis, resource management, and commercial awareness to optimize production while maintaining animal health, environmental responsibility, product quality, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement aquaculture strategies aligned with production, quality, sustainability, and commercial objectives.
- Manage day-to-day aquaculture operations across farms, hatcheries, nurseries, ponds, tanks, cages, or recirculating systems as applicable.
- Develop production plans covering stocking, growth, feeding, harvesting, biomass, capacity, and resource requirements.
- Establish production targets for survival, growth, biomass, feed efficiency, quality, and yield.
- Select appropriate species, strains, stocking densities, and production systems based on operational requirements.
- Coordinate hatchery, nursery, grow-out, harvesting, and post-harvest activities.
- Monitor stocking, biomass, growth rates, survival rates, mortality, and production cycles.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for aquaculture activities.
- Establish protocols for stocking, acclimation, feeding, grading, sampling, harvesting, and animal handling.
- Monitor water-quality parameters including temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, alkalinity, turbidity, and other relevant indicators.
- Establish water-quality monitoring schedules, thresholds, alarms, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate water exchange, filtration, aeration, oxygenation, circulation, and treatment systems.
- Monitor recirculating aquaculture systems and associated pumps, filters, biofilters, sensors, and control systems where applicable.
- Develop feeding strategies based on species, biomass, life stage, water conditions, growth targets, and feed performance.
- Monitor feed consumption, feeding behavior, feed conversion ratio, and feed wastage.
- Evaluate feed products and work with suppliers to improve nutritional performance and cost efficiency.
- Establish aquatic animal health monitoring programs.
- Coordinate with aquatic veterinarians, fish health specialists, laboratories, and technical advisors.
- Monitor disease indicators, abnormal behavior, mortality, growth abnormalities, and other health risks.
- Establish biosecurity procedures covering personnel, equipment, water sources, stock movement, quarantine, sanitation, and visitor access.
- Develop quarantine and isolation procedures for new or potentially affected stock.
- Coordinate disease investigation, diagnostic testing, treatment, and response activities in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Maintain accurate health, mortality, treatment, diagnostic, and production records.
- Establish early-warning systems for disease outbreaks, water-quality deterioration, equipment failures, and production risks.
- Analyze production and biological data to identify trends, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Use data analytics, sensors, automation, remote monitoring, and digital aquaculture technologies to improve operational control.
- Monitor environmental conditions and assess their potential impact on aquatic animal health and production.
- Develop contingency plans for oxygen failures, power outages, water-quality emergencies, disease outbreaks, extreme weather, equipment failures, and other disruptions.
- Coordinate harvesting operations to meet production schedules, quality requirements, customer specifications, and market demand.
- Manage handling, grading, sorting, chilling, storage, and transfer of harvested products.
- Coordinate with Processing, Quality, Logistics, and Sales teams to maintain product quality and traceability.
- Establish product traceability from broodstock, hatchery, stocking, feed, treatments, production batches, and harvest through final delivery.
- Ensure aquaculture operations comply with applicable environmental, animal-health, food-safety, labor, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage environmental monitoring and controls related to water discharge, nutrient loading, waste, chemicals, and ecosystem impacts.
- Promote responsible use of water, energy, feed, chemicals, and other operational resources.
- Monitor environmental performance and identify opportunities to reduce waste and resource consumption.
- Manage aquaculture equipment, infrastructure, tanks, ponds, cages, pumps, aerators, feeders, sensors, and monitoring systems.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, calibration, and equipment reliability programs.
- Monitor equipment availability, downtime, energy consumption, and operational reliability.
- Manage aquaculture employees, technicians, operators, supervisors, and seasonal personnel.
- Develop workforce plans, shift schedules, responsibilities, and operational coverage.
- Train employees in animal handling, feeding, water-quality monitoring, biosecurity, safety, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
- Monitor employee performance and develop technical competency programs.
- Manage aquaculture suppliers, feed providers, equipment manufacturers, laboratories, veterinary services, and other external partners.
- Evaluate supplier quality, technical performance, delivery reliability, pricing, and service levels.
- Manage production budgets, operating expenses, feed costs, labor costs, maintenance costs, and capital investments.
- Evaluate production economics, cost per kilogram, feed costs, survival, yield, and return on investment.
- Lead continuous-improvement initiatives to increase production efficiency, survival, growth, quality, and profitability.
- Evaluate emerging technologies including automated feeding, computer vision, remote sensing, AI-based monitoring, robotics, precision aquaculture, and digital farm-management systems.
- Support research, trials, pilot projects, new species, new production systems, and technology-development programs.
- Prepare management reports covering production, biomass, growth, survival, feed performance, animal health, water quality, costs, risks, and operational performance.

The successful candidate should have strong experience in aquaculture management, fish farming, shrimp farming, hatchery operations, aquatic animal production, fisheries, aquatic biology, or commercial aquaculture, preferably within intensive, semi-intensive, recirculating, pond, cage, or hatchery environments.
The candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of commercial aquaculture production systems.
- Experience managing fish, shrimp, shellfish, or other aquatic species.
- Strong understanding of aquatic animal biology, growth, reproduction, stocking, and production cycles.
- Experience managing hatchery, nursery, grow-out, or integrated aquaculture operations.
- Strong knowledge of water-quality monitoring and management.
- Experience developing feeding programs and improving feed conversion and efficiency.
- Strong understanding of aquatic animal health, disease prevention, and biosecurity.
- Experience working with aquatic veterinarians, laboratories, and health specialists.
- Knowledge of quarantine, disease diagnostics, treatment protocols, and health documentation.
- Experience managing production data, biomass calculations, growth analysis, mortality, and yield.
- Strong understanding of aquaculture equipment, aeration, pumping, filtration, oxygenation, and monitoring systems.
- Experience with recirculating aquaculture systems or automated aquaculture technologies is highly desirable.
