In addition, the office coordinates development of operating budget initiatives submitted to the Commonwealth of Virginia and the integration of all budget development activities into the overall planning activities of the university. The Budget Planning Analyst assists the Director of Budget Operations and AVP of Budget and Financial Planning in long-term institutional financial planning. This position utilizes the Workday Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and the Adaptive financial planning application to create/manage financial plans for funds including, but not limited to, Educational and General (E&G), auxiliary enterprises, and Board of Visitor's private funds. Responsibilities include (but not limited to): • Maintain/update existing institutional financial forecasts, budget models, and reports. • Assist in the development of new institutional financial forecasts and budget models. Ensure data integrity between the Workday ERP system and the Adaptive financial planning application and perform updates if needed. Prepare budget reports, staffing reports and key financial performance metrics periodically (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually). • Provide training to users throughout campus on how to utilize the Adaptive financial planning application for unit level financial planning. • Assist in the implementation of new functionality in the Adaptive financial planning application. • Work with the William and Mary Information Technology team to help implement and test new versions of Workday and the Adaptive financial planning application. Job Description: Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business or closely related field or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices, analysis and reporting of financial data. Working knowledge of budget operations with the ability to assist in budget management functions and prepare evaluations of budget requests. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to review operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs and analyze monthly department budgeting and accounting reports to maintain expenditure controls. Proficiency with a variety of software applications systems, particularly automated Accounting & Finance systems and MS Office, with advanced skills in Excel. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team and collaboratively with departmental managers. Ability to provide strong guidance, while exercising sound judgment using tact and diplomacy in all interactions. Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently within tight deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of Commonwealth of VA higher education financial policies and procedures. Knowledge of Workday, Banner, or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Working knowledge of financial planning applications and tools. Conditions of Employment: During select and limited deadline-oriented periods, this position is subject to additional hours beyond the typical work week to meet the business needs. Job Duties: 20% - Maintain/Update Existing Financial Models and Reports: William and Mary has developed a wide variety of reports to aid financial planning, personnel management, and budget tracking. Various aspects of these items must be updated periodically to ensure that they continue to be as accurate as possible. 15% - Assist with Developing New Institutional Financial Forecasts, Reports, and Budget Models: Assist the Director of Budget Operations and AVP of Budget and Financial Planning to develop new financial forecasts, reports, and budget models. These models will vary across fund types, as well as the operating and capital budgets. 15% - Data Integrity between Workday ERP System and the Adaptive Financial Planning Application (AFPA): The Adaptive Financial Planning Application interfaces with the Workday ERP system to pull financial data. Periodically monitor the interface to ensure that the systems agree. 15% - Budget and Finance Reports: Prepare budget reports, staffing reports and key financial performance metrics periodically (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually). The are a variety of reports and key financial performance metrics that will exist in the Adaptive Financial Planning Application. The reports and metrics will need to be compiled and presented to institutional financial leadership at various points throughout the year. 20% - Train others on AFPA: Train units throughout William and Mary how to utilize AFPA to assist them in their unit level financial planning. 10% - Assist with implementation of new functionality in AFPA: Assist with testing and implementation during additional phases of AFPA rollout. Add new functionality and capabilities to the application. 5% - Work with the William and Mary Information Technology team to help implement and test new versions of Workday and the AFPA: Test Workday and AFPA periodic system updates.
