Business Analyst - Payments
Location: Toronto, ON
Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid — 4 days in office
Contract Details
- Position Type: Contract
- Contract Duration: 12 months (extension possible; conversion to permanent possible)
- Pay Rate: C$64.00–C$78.00 / Hour (CAD)
- Shift / Schedule: Monday–Friday, core business hours; overtime as needed

Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Payments Platform Capabilities, the successful candidate will play a critical role in the management and delivery of business analysis activities on complex, transformational, cross-functional project(s) for Enterprise Payments. The primary responsibilities of the Senior Business Analyst include, but are not limited to, the following.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership of the end-to-end business requirements throughout the lifecycle of the project, working collaboratively with stakeholders from lines of business, technology, operations and governance & control, always keeping a customer-centric focus
- Proactive identification and management of requirement risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, and constraints
- Contribution to Change Management deliverables (stakeholder analysis, gap analysis, change planning, etc.) to ensure readiness of our customers, colleagues and cross-functional stakeholder groups
- Application of a variety of business analysis tools and techniques to solicit requirements and ensure alignment with business and Enterprise Payments' needs and strategies
- Adherence to Enterprise Project Management governance and controls to ensure requirement deliverables meet best practices and standards
- Collaboration with technology partners, providing recommendations towards system requirements and design to ensure alignment to business requirements
- Contribution to Quality Assurance activities by supporting development of test strategies, test plans and test scenarios; and active participation in assessment and resolution of testing defects
- Contribution to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of colleagues by sharing knowledge and experiences
- Fostering a collaborative team environment by actively participating in team meetings and reward & recognition programs
- Contribution to a positive work environment by embracing diversity in the workplace and supporting and proudly representing the organization in the community
- Lead and manage business requirements
- Work with multiple business lines and stakeholders
- Partner with Governance & Controls
- Work closely with Technology/IT teams
- Understand current business processes and identify requirements
- Translate business requirements into technology requirements/specifications
- Support project delivery and modernization initiatives
- Manage stakeholder discussions at a senior level
- Work with Product Owners / Chief Product Owners
- Partner with BAs, BAsAs/technical teams and QA
- Help interpret QA findings against business requirements
- Communicate analysis/findings to executives

Wire Payments Modernization
- Understanding end-to-end business processes
- Identifying systems involved
- Defining requirements for technology modernization
Data Services
- Customer/data requirements
- Understanding end-to-end customer data needs
EFT / EDAS Modernization
- Modernizing capabilities currently embedded in mainframe applications
- Identifying which business capabilities can be extracted from legacy/mainframe systems
- Determining what can be built outside the mainframe environment
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of business analysis, project delivery practices and standards across the project life cycle
- Proven track record working in project delivery, with experience in various project disciplines (PDLC, Iterative, Agile)
- Proven experience in successful requirements delivery for large, complex, multi-stakeholder programs/projects
- Prior experience in a financial institution (payments-focused role is an asset)
- Strong leadership with a demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with all levels
- Strong verbal/written communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills, adapting style and technique to a diverse audience
- Banking/Finance project experience
- Demonstrated experience managing large complex projects in an investment banking environment
- General understanding in Agile Methodologies or experience working in an agile process
- Business Analysis experience (8 years)
- PDLC (5 years)
- Requirements Gathering (8 years)
- Familiarity with payment types and basic payment messaging, including Wire payments, EFT, EDI/EDAS, and SWIFT messages
- General understanding of how banks communicate payment information
- Ability to think from a business lens first and translate business needs into technology specifications
- Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technology teams
- Meaningful stakeholder-management experience
- Comfort working across different payment modernization projects
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience in Agile requirements delivery
- Payments-focused role experience
- BA accreditation
- Experience in payments (2 years)
- Hybrid Business Analyst / Business Systems Analyst background
- Ideally banking / financial institution background with payments focus
- Banking & Payments experience: ideally 3–4 years, with recent experience preferred
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
Required Experience
- 8 years of experience in business analysis
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Prior experience in Agile requirements delivery
- Prior experience in a payments-focused role within a financial institution
- BA accreditation
- 3–4 years of banking/financial services experience
- 3–4 years of payments experience preferred
- Wire / EFT / EDI/EDAS exposure
- Familiarity with SWIFT/payment messaging
Important Notes
- Interview process: 2 rounds — 1st round virtual (camera on) and 2nd round in person (accommodation may be possible for candidates who cannot attend in person)
- The role is primarily focused on day-to-day project delivery and business requirements; change management is not a major responsibility
- There is a separate QA team; the BA will work closely with QA to ensure requirements are understood and delivered and to help determine whether business requirements were actually met
- Candidates should understand payment types and basic payment messaging; deep technical/payment expertise is not required
- No credit-card or debit-card experience is required
