Role Overview

As a Principal Consultant, you will lead the design and delivery of business architecture across complex programmes, client engagements and strategic initiatives. You will be responsible for ensuring that business capabilities, processes, and operating models are clearly defined, aligned to strategy, and enable effective transformation. This role combines leadership, delivery excellence, and deep expertise in business architecture techniques.

You will lead project teams, manage client relationships, and ensure the quality and impact of our work. You’ll also play a key role in developing the practice—mentoring junior colleagues, contributing to bids and proposals, and helping shape our methods, tools, and knowledge base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership
Lead business architecture workstreams or full projects, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, to a high standard, and in line with the agreed scope. Ensure that delivery scope in the Enterprise Design Practice is aligned with other Differentis Practice Areas where required.

Ensure that project actuals are monitored and tracked in line with agreed budgets, highlighting any significant variances to the Practice Director

  • Client Communication
Own the communication of project status, risks, and progress to clients and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and trust throughout delivery.

  • Quality Assurance
Review and assure the work of team members, ensuring outputs meet quality expectations and align with the proposal or statement of work.

  • Process Ownership
Manage not only process mapping activities but also the structure, governance, and integrity of the process repository or workspace.

  • Insight & Analysis
Provide clear, structured analysis of project findings and ensure that analysis and output packs are of high quality, insight-driven, and aligned to client expectations.

  • Output Pack Development
Create and develop output packs that clearly demonstrate the work completed, confirm that deliverables have been met, summarise key findings, outline recommendations, and define next steps.

  • Practice Development
Lead on key practice deliverables, contribute to the evolution of Differentis methodologies and artefacts, and support the continuous improvement of our consulting toolkit.

  • Mentorship & Coaching
Provide guidance and mentorship to Level 1–3 consultants, supporting their development and helping build capability across the team.

  • Bid & Proposal Support
Contribute to key bids and proposals, bringing business architecture insight and helping shape compelling client propositions.

  • Mastery & Growth
Actively seek to deepen expertise in business architecture disciplines, frameworks, and tools, and contribute to the thought leadership of the practice.

Ways of Working

To support effective collaboration and delivery, all colleagues are expected to:

  • Work their contracted hours consistently and reliably, ensuring full availability during those times.

  • Be contactable and responsive during agreed working hours, in line with team and client needs.

  • Provide clear visibility of their working schedule and location, including daily and weekly updates on working hours and whether they are working remotely or on-site.

  • Avoid engaging in personal activities or non-work-related tasks during contracted hours, unless previously agreed with their line manager.

  • Log time accurately and consistently, ensuring that time entries reflect actual work completed and align with project expectations.

  • Maintain an up-to-date status of work, including what has been completed, what is in progress, and what is planned—shared regularly with the team and/or project lead.

  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and deliverables, ensuring they are completed to a high standard and not left unfinished or uncommunicated.

  • Proactively flag any blockers, delays, or changes in availability, so that support can be provided and delivery remains on track.
