Role Overview
The Business Consultant โ Data Migration is responsible for delivering accurate, controlled and efficient data migrations as part of ERP finance software implementations, primarily into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Working closely with customers, implementation consultants, Project Managers and other project stakeholders, the role involves managing the end-to-end data migration process, from initial data discovery and assessment through to data cleansing, mapping, transformation, testing, live migration, reconciliation and customer sign-off.
The successful candidate will help customers prepare and migrate data from legacy finance and ERP systems, ensuring information is complete, accurate and fit for purpose in the new solution. This includes financial master data, opening balances, outstanding transactions and other relevant operational records.
The role will also contribute to improving migration quality, efficiency and consistency through reusable templates, standardised processes, automation and the responsible use of approved AI tools, while maintaining appropriate controls, data security and human oversight.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Data Migration: Own and deliver the data migration workstream for ERP finance implementations, from initial discovery and planning through to live migration, reconciliation and post-go-live support.
Migration Planning: Define the migration approach, scope, timelines, dependencies, responsibilities and acceptance criteria in line with the overall implementation plan.
Source Data Assessment: Review customer data from legacy finance and ERP systems to assess its structure, completeness, accuracy and suitability for migration. Identify data quality issues, gaps, inconsistencies and potential risks.
Data Mapping and Transformation: Map legacy data to the relevant Business Central data structures, ensuring information is correctly structured, transformed and prepared for import into the target solution.
Finance Data Migration: Prepare and migrate relevant finance and operational data, including charts of accounts, customers, suppliers, general ledger opening balances, outstanding purchase and sales transactions, fixed assets, projects and other agreed records.
Data Cleansing and Preparation: Work with customers to identify and resolve data quality issues, remove duplicates, correct inconsistencies and ensure data is complete and ready for migration. Establish clear customer responsibilities and deadlines for data preparation.
Migration Tools and Templates: Use appropriate tools and techniques to extract, manipulate, validate and import data. Maintain structured migration templates, mapping documents and repeatable processes to support accurate and efficient delivery.
Test Migrations: Perform repeatable test migrations and migration rehearsals, assess the results, investigate errors and refine mapping and transformation rules ahead of the live cutover.
Data Validation and Reconciliation: Reconcile migrated data against the original source records, including financial balances, transaction totals and record counts where applicable. Investigate discrepancies, resolve issues and maintain evidence of validation.
Live Migration and Cutover: Execute live migrations in accordance with agreed cutover plans, security requirements, validation procedures and rollback arrangements. Coordinate with the wider implementation team to minimise disruption and support a controlled transition to the new system.
Customer Sign-Off: Present migration results clearly to customers, document outstanding issues and obtain formal approval that migrated data meets agreed acceptance criteria.
Issue and Risk Management: Maintain migration plans, issue logs, risk records, mapping documentation and audit evidence. Communicate progress, blockers, dependencies and decisions to Project Managers, customers and relevant stakeholders.
AI and Automation: Use approved AI tools and automation techniques to support data profiling, anomaly detection, mapping recommendations, transformation activities and quality checks. Validate outputs through appropriate human review and comply with organisational data security and governance requirements.
Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain reusable migration templates, validation checks, documentation and standard working practices to improve consistency, efficiency and quality across future implementations.
Post-Go-Live Support: Investigate migration-related issues following go-live, support the resolution of data discrepancies and ensure outstanding migration activities are completed and documented.
Other Duties: Undertake any other duties that are reasonably commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the role.
