Business Development Associate
Alexander Funds | Melbourne, VIC | Full-time
About Alexander Funds
Alexander Funds is an Australian fixed income credit manager, founded in 2009 on a simple belief: Australian investors should have access to the credit opportunities that were long reserved for institutions. We don't try to be everything to everyone. We focus on building carefully constructed credit portfolios across corporate bonds, securitised assets and private credit, designed to preserve capital and deliver income through the market cycle.
About the role
Looking to build your career in financial services? This is an opportunity to learn, grow and gain hands-on experience in the investment management industry.
We're looking for a motivated and curious Business Development Associate to join our Distribution & Marketing team in Melbourne. Reporting to the Head of Distribution & Marketing, you'll play an important role in supporting our national distribution efforts, building client relationships and helping grow funds under management.
You'll work closely with experienced professionals across our Distribution, Marketing, Operations and Investment teams, gaining valuable exposure to different areas of the business and developing a strong understanding of financial markets, investment products and client engagement.
For someone early in their career, this is a chance to take on meaningful responsibilities, contribute to a growing business and develop the skills and industry knowledge to progress in investment management and distribution.
What you'll do
- Support account management across existing and prospective intermediary clients, building your knowledge of the financial advice industry.
- Run outbound phone and email campaigns to generate leads, build confidence in client engagement and develop financial adviser relationships.
- Manage inbound client enquiries, working with Investment, Executive and Distribution colleagues to deliver great client outcomes.
- Work with Operations on information requests from platforms and rating agencies, and assist with platform flow reporting.
- Help keep monthly fact sheets, sales decks and website pricing and documents accurate and up to date.
- Prepare tailored proposals, pitchbooks, presentations and fund comparisons.
- Develop your analytical skills by collating fund data using Morningstar Direct and our internal systems.
- Coordinate Investment team input into due diligence questionnaires, RFIs and RFPs.
- Research market and competitor trends to identify new opportunities and build your industry knowledge.
- Help organise events, webinars and conferences, with opportunities to attend client meetings and industry events, including interstate travel.
About you
We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a genuine interest in financial markets and a willingness to learn. You don't need to know everything from day one. We're interested in your potential, initiative and enthusiasm to develop.
- A bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or Business/Commerce
- Ideally 1–3 years' experience in financial services, although motivated graduates are encouraged to apply
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with clients over the phone and in person
- A proactive, curious mindset and a willingness to ask questions, learn and take on new challenges
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- An interest in investment markets, funds management and building client relationships
- RG146 compliance is preferred but not essential
- Experience with analytics software (Morningstar Direct, Lonsec iRate or similar) is an advantage
- Strong Excel or Power BI skills are an advantage
What we value
We're tenacious and obsessed with delivering great outcomes for our stakeholders. We challenge the status quo and stay agile as we grow. We put the team above self, communicate respectfully and follow through on our promises. And we care: about our clients, about each other and about integrity.
What we offer
- Flexible/hybrid working arrangements
- Hands-on learning and exposure to experienced investment and distribution professionals
- Professional development, training and opportunities to grow your career
- Opportunities to take on responsibility and make a meaningful contribution from early on
- Parental leave
- Regular team events and social activities
- A supportive, collaborative team culture where your ideas and contributions are valued
