Location and Working Pattern:

Hybrid working is available, combining attendance at our Reading office with home working. Occasional travel within the UK and Europe will be required for customer and partner meetings, conferences, and industry events.

About the role:

LMO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Enpulsion GmbH. Together, the companies deliver advanced technologies and services predominantly for the European space sector. This role offers the opportunity to represent complementary capabilities, work directly with technical specialists and customers, and help shape growth across both businesses.

LMO and Enpulsion are looking for an organised and commercially minded Business Development Executive to support growth across the European space sector. You will help identify potential customers, qualify leads and opportunities, maintain accurate CRM records, support customer engagement, and connect customer needs with the products and services offered across both businesses.

This role suits a business development professional who has already built a sound commercial foundation and is ready to take greater ownership of customer relationships and opportunities. Experience in the space, aerospace, defence, or another high-technology sector would be valuable. Success will depend on your ability to learn the portfolio, apply a structured sales process, communicate with credibility, and maintain trusted working relationships.

You will manage day-to-day activity across the sales process: gathering market intelligence, identifying potentials, qualifying accounts and deals, maintaining accurate records in Zoho CRM, coordinating quotes and proposals, and supporting the handover of awarded work to Customer Solutions Engineering and delivery teams.

Dependent on experience, the salary range offered for this role is circa £35k-50k.

Key responsibilities:

Business Development

  • Research the market and identify potential customers, projects, programmes, and partners using direct engagement and reliable public sources.
  • Support the qualification of accounts and leads against target segment, funding, technical fit, procurement timing, and compliance criteria.
  • Help build and maintain constructive relationships with customers, partners, agencies, prime contractors, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Represent LMO and Enpulsion at selected conferences, exhibitions, networking events, and customer meetings, with appropriate preparation and support.
  • Arrange and support customer meetings, visits, follow-up actions, and routine commercial communications.

Opportunity and Campaign Management

  • Manage assigned opportunities from initial identification through qualification, quotation or proposal, purchase order review, and handover.
  • Create and maintain accurate account, contact, deal, activity, quote, and shipping-plan information in Zoho CRM and the agreed file structure.
  • Apply the agreed deal stages and probability rules so that pipeline reports and forecasts reflect current evidence.
  • Record customer touchpoints, decisions, actions, and next steps promptly, and resolve or escalate missing information and overdue activity.
  • Prepare and present assigned opportunities at reviews, contributing evidence to bid/no-bid decisions and recommended next steps.

Bid and Proposal Support

  • Support the preparation, review, approval, issue, and filing of quotes, ROM responses, and proposals.
  • Coordinate inputs from engineering, production, Customer Solutions Engineering, finance, operations, and management.
  • Help check that technical scope, pricing, payment terms, shipment schedule, delivery method, limitations, validity, and applicable terms are complete and consistent.
  • Maintain document and quote version control using the agreed deal number and naming conventions.

Market Intelligence

  • Monitor relevant market activity, programmes, funding opportunities, customer developments, and competitor activity.
  • Gather and organise information from customer interactions and reliable open sources, clearly distinguishing verified facts from assumptions.
  • Share concise market and customer updates with the business development team.

Internal Collaboration

  • Develop practical working knowledge of both companies’ products, capabilities, heritage, target customers, and sales process.
  • Work with technical and programme colleagues to understand customer requirements and prepare accurate commercial material.
  • Support compliant information sharing, including use of non-disclosure agreements before detailed sensitive discussions.
  • Assist with order review and the controlled handover of awarded work, including the purchase order, latest quote, and required customer information.
  • Suggest practical improvements to business development processes, templates, data quality, and tools.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable business development, sales, account management, or related commercial experience.
  • Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence engaging professionally with customers, partners, and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Experience progressing opportunities, coordinating follow-up actions, and maintaining momentum across a sales pipeline.
  • Sound commercial awareness and the ability to understand customer needs, priorities, and decision processes.
  • Strong organisation, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to research, assess, and summarise commercial and market information.
  • Experience using CRM systems and maintaining accurate commercial records.
  • Ability to manage several opportunities and priorities with appropriate autonomy.
  • Ability and willingness to learn technical products and internal processes.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience in the space, aerospace, defence, engineering, or another high-technology sector.
  • Experience preparing or coordinating bids, proposals, quotations, customer presentations, or commercial reviews.
  • Familiarity with Zoho CRM and structured opportunity-stage or probability-based forecasting.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, or comparable business tools.
  • Awareness of institutional customers, government organisations, prime contractors, or regulated procurement.
  • Additional European language skills.

Personal Attributes

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to build credibility and establish trust quickly with customers and partners.
  • A proactive and resilient approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional judgement and integrity.
  • A collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
  • Comfort operating within a growing and evolving business.

Success in this role will be assessed through:

  • Progression and quality of assigned opportunities across the sales pipeline.
  • Effective customer engagement and timely completion of agreed follow-up actions.
  • Accurate, complete, and current CRM records and forecasts.
  • Quality and timeliness of contributions to quotes, proposals, reviews, and handovers.
  • Growth in product, market, customer, and sales-process knowledge.
  • Positive collaboration across LMO and Enpulsion teams.

You do not need deep knowledge of every product when you join. We are looking for someone with credible experience who can quickly understand complex technology, engage customers with confidence, exercise sound judgement, and grow into broader account and campaign responsibility.

If you are curious about complex technology and want to build a career in business development within the space sector, we would like to hear from you.

Please submit your CV and a short covering note explaining your relevant experience and interest in the role.
