Show job description

If you want to be the first BDR at a company with real momentum and help build the playbook, keep reading.

This is a new role at e-PlanSoft. You'll be the first person in it, and we'll build it together.

About e-PlanSoft

e-PlanSoft makes electronic plan review software for the cities, counties, and third-party reviewers who approve what gets built in their communities. For nearly two decades, we've helped agencies move a slow, paper-heavy process online. We integrate with the permitting platforms our customers already use, and we're backed by ParkerGale, a growth-focused PE software investor.

Over the past year, we rebuilt. We modernized the product and shipped the features that put us back at the top. Our NPS jumped 20+ points, existing customers are asking to see our new paid products, and our partnerships are stronger than they've been in years. Now we need more conversations with the agencies who don't know us yet. That's where you come in.

The role

You are not selling e-PlanSoft. You are selling the value of a first conversation with e-PlanSoft. Your job is to open doors, earn trust, and set great meetings for our Account Executives.

You'll work two kinds of leads:

  • Cold: cities and counties that fit our ideal customer profile but haven't raised their hand...yet.
  • Warm: leads from marketing, conferences, and public signals. For example, when a city council discusses buying plan review software, we'll know, and that lead goes to you.

What makes this market different

  • Government buyers can smell a sales pitch. They have little patience for pushy outreach. We lead with relationships and service: how can we help, not how can we sell.
  • Everything is public. Budgets, council agendas, RFPs, and permit volumes are a search away. That makes it possible to personalize at scale, so you never have to choose between relevant and high-volume.
  • Service and volume go together here. We don't want someone afraid of the phone or who sends five perfect emails a day. We also don’t want a pushy salesperson that does a ton of outbound, but gives prospects “the ick”. We want someone with a servant mindset AND the grit to do the volume it takes to start conversations.

What you'll do

  • Prospect every day across phone, email, and LinkedIn. You will cold call, and you'll do it with a service-first mindset, consistency, and volume.
  • Use public information (council agendas, budgets, RFPs, permit data) to make every touch relevant to that agency.
  • Follow up fast on warm leads from marketing, conferences, and public signals.
  • Represent our brand in market. Every prospect should walk away feeling helped, whether they take the meeting or not.
  • Set qualified first meetings for our Account Executives and ELT members; hand those meetings off cleanly.
  • Keep your activity and notes in the CRM. We use AI to make this close to painless.
  • Help us build the BDR playbook: what works, what doesn't, and what we should try next.
  • We are fully remote, and we always will be. If interested, you’ll have the opportunity to travel occasionally for conferences when it matters (though this is not a requirement).

Who you are

This is not an entry-level role. You've done this work before, and you've done it well. We'll ask about your performance in prior roles, so come ready to talk numbers.

You have

  • Proven experience as a BDR or SDR, including real cold calling. If you've never cold called, this isn't the right fit.
  • A track record of hitting high activity volumes and meeting targets.
  • A reputation for outreach that makes prospects feel valued, not pressured.
  • The persistence to keep going when the answer is "not now."
  • Comfort working remotely and owning your own day.

Bonus points for

  • Government, public sector, or other regulated-industry experience. We'd love it, but great BDR experience matters far more than GovTech experience.
  • Using public information or AI tools to personalize outreach at scale.

Where this can go

We're open to where you want this role to lead. Some people want to be career BDRs and master the craft. Some want a path to Account Executive. Some are exploring a non-traditional next step. All are welcome. What matters is that you're great at this work today.

Our commitment to you

Because you're our first BDR, we can't show you years of past results. What we can show you is commitment. If you bring persistence, politeness, a service mindset, and a willingness to do what it takes to win, we'll match it. You'll get warm leads, real enablement, direct access to leadership, and a team that wants you to succeed. We're building this together.

Compensation

Base salary of $65,000 with on-target earnings of $95,000.

How we work

We have high standards, and we want people who want to be pushed and will push us back.

What we don't believe in is performative hustle. Nobody's counting your hours or your green dot. Great people often hit high standards well inside working hours. That's a feature, not a flaw.

So yes, we'll push you. And you can also see the dentist mid-day, pick up your kids from school, or leave early on Friday. Having a life and doing the best work of your career aren't in tension here.

Our five core behaviors

We focus on core behaviors instead of core values, because what matters is how we show up for each other.

  1. Curious before critical. We start with "how might we?" instead of listing why something won't work. We still challenge and push back. The difference is where we start.
  2. Speak up, even when your voice shakes. Disagreeing with someone more senior is hard. It's on all of us, especially leaders, to make that safe. Once everyone's been heard, we commit fully.
  3. Customers first, always. Our job is to understand customers well enough to solve the real problem. For a BDR, that means outreach that helps, not outreach that pesters.
  4. Make hard fun. Hard doesn't have to mean miserable. We work hard and find the fun in it together.
  5. Take the time to simplify. Handing someone something complicated makes them do the work. Simplifying is the kind thing to do, and the smart thing for the business.
