About the role
We're hiring a Business Development Executive to acquire businesses with recurring international supplier-payment needs.
This is a hunter and closer role. You will identify businesses that regularly pay overseas suppliers, win their business, get them through onboarding and drive them through first transaction and repeat usage. You will own the commercial relationship from prospecting through activation, while receiving support on larger or more complex opportunities.
Your success will be measured primarily by new active customers, transaction volume and revenue generated.
What you'll do
Identify and prospect importers, distributors, wholesalers, manufacturers and other businesses with recurring international supplier-payment needs
Build pipeline from scratch through outbound prospecting, referrals, industry networks, trade associations, events and other relevant channels
Understand each prospect's payment corridors, currencies, transaction frequency, volumes, current providers and pain points
Qualify prospects for both commercial fit and compliance readiness
Position String's international payments, FX and settlement capabilities against the customer's needs
Own commercial follow-up and closing, escalating where appropriate for larger or more complex opportunities
Work with Compliance to move qualified customers efficiently through KYB and onboarding
Drive customers through their first transaction rather than treating onboarding as the end of the sale
Develop originated customers into recurring relationships and increase transaction volume and wallet share over time
Maintain accurate CRM, origination and customer records
Work closely with Treasury/OTC on pricing and transaction execution within approved commercial parameters
Feed customer needs, corridor opportunities, competitor information and pricing feedback into the business
What we're looking for
2–5 years of B2B sales or business-development experience, ideally in payments, FX, fintech, corporate banking, trade finance, remittance, logistics or another trade-adjacent business
Demonstrated ability to source new business from scratch and convert prospects into paying customers
Comfort with cold outreach, persistent follow-up and commercial negotiation
Understanding of how businesses make international payments and the problems importers face when paying overseas suppliers
Ability to discuss transaction volumes, FX pricing, payment corridors, settlement timelines and onboarding requirements credibly with business owners and finance teams
Strong commercial judgement and a bias toward revenue-generating activity
Clear written and verbal communication
Ability to work independently and take ownership of a number
Nice to have
Existing relationships with importers, distributors, manufacturers, freight forwarders or trade associations
Prior experience selling cross-border payments, FX, treasury or trade-finance products
Existing network of business owners, finance managers or treasury decision-makers
Familiarity with cross border B2B payments
