Sydney Music Lessons | Business Development Intern

  • Remote, with in-person training at our CBD office
  • A few hours per week
  • Unpaid, with a pathway to a paid role

THE SHORT VERSION

Learn real sales by doing it. You'll help grow one of the fastest-growing network of music teachers, with direct coaching from the founder. Do well, and you can move into a paid role that owns the full sales funnel, including leading the sales meetings.

ABOUT US

Sydney Music Lessons connects students with vetted music teachers across Sydney. Our network currently has 200+ teachers. Growing it means finding great teachers, earning their trust and booking them in for conversations. That is where you come in.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Reach out to music teachers to grow the network.
  • Run warm calls to people who are ready to take students.
  • Book appointments for the sales meetings.
  • Track every conversation in our pipeline so nothing falls through.
  • Share what you hear in the field, such as objections, patterns and what's working, so we can improve our pitch.
  • Later in the term, you may try cold calling with training, if you wish.

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH UPON COMPLETION

  • Hands-on sales experience you can talk about in any interview
  • A reference from the founder
  • A LinkedIn recommendation
  • Real numbers you can put on your CV, such as outreach volume and appointments booked

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • The fundamentals of selling, and how a sales funnel works
  • Practical sales psychology
  • How to build trust quickly with people who don't know you
  • Handling objections without being pushy
  • Cold outreach, warm calls and, in time, cold calls
  • Appointment setting that gets people to show up

These skills carry over to any career in business, marketing, startups or sales.

TIME COMMITMENT

  • A few hours per week in total. Most days need only a small amount of work.
  • Very flexible. Fit it around study or work.
  • Term: 3 months.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK

Mostly remote. In the early weeks you may need to attend training in person at Suite 503, 478 George Street, Sydney, directly across from the QVB. Please make sure you can travel to the CBD for those sessions.

YOU MIGHT BE A FIT IF YOU

  • Are experienced in or curious about sales, business development or starting a business
  • Communicate clearly in writing and on the phone
  • Are reliable and follow through without chasing
  • Handle rejection well and keep going
  • Are organised enough to manage your own hours
  • Love music, or at least respect what teachers do (a bonus, not a requirement)
