We are hiring a Business Development Manager to build business opportunities and client relationships that result in strategic business growth in the areas of turn-key telecom, wireless, utilities, and data center sectors. Our Business Development Managers work to grow business by identifying, developing, and securing new clients and markets for Utilities One's telecom and utility infrastructure services, including FTTH, Middle Mile, Long Haul fiber, and data center construction. This position is a fast-paced, relationship-driven position; candidates must be self-driven, organized, persuasive, and comfortable working independently in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a prioritized pipeline of target clients, including carriers, ISPs, construction primes, electric cooperatives, municipalities, and Tribal entities, organized by build type and region.
  • Monitor BEAD, NTIA, ReConnect, state broadband office, and co-op fiber program awards, as well as hyperscale and data center construction announcements, to identify opportunities before they go to bid.
  • Develop and manage relationships with decision-makers at tier-1, and regional carriers, open access networks, local governments, non-profits and tribes to position Utilities One for MSAs, approved-vendor status, and direct awards.
  • Coordinate with onshore and offshore team to own client onboarding, client registration, supplier portal onboarding, and prequalification packages, coordinating with contracts, insurance, licensing, and compliance so requirements are met on time.
  • Lead client discovery and alignment calls, as well as participating in client follow up along with onshore and offshore Business Development team.
  • Work with the Bid & Pricing team to coordinate communication, provide client and competitor intelligence to support winning pricing and proposals.
  • Collaborate with vendor management division to Identify subcontracting partners to gain market intelligence and establish presence in new markets.
  • Maintain and update capability statements, project references, and market-specific marketing materials for carrier, grant-funded, Tribal, and data center audiences.
  • Represent Utilities One at client meetings, site visits, industry conferences, and trade association events.
  • Follow up on awarded and unsuccessful bids with clients to strengthen relationships, obtain debriefs, and identify future opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership on market expansion strategy, including cross selling clients across divisions and entry into new states.
  • Maintain accurate records of all outreach and pipeline activity in the CRM and BD target tracker.
  • Report weekly on pipeline status, outreach activity, registrations, and new opportunities through weekly BD calls by division.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Must have 5+ years' experience in successful business development, sales, or capture position in telecom, fiber, or utility infrastructure construction.
  • Deep understanding of telecom infrastructure, such as OSP, FTTH, Middle Mile, Long Haul, ISP, and/or Wireless Services, and how construction work is priced and awarded.
  • Must be able to travel locally and nationally to attend trade shows, client meetings on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on demand.
  • Working knowledge of grant-funded broadband programs (BEAD, NTIA, ReConnect) and public procurement processes.
  • Experience with client onboarding and prequalification, including insurance, bonding, safety records, and DBE/MBE requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple relationships and priorities in a fast-paced environment with an even temperament.
  • Excellent computer skills, i.e.: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Smartsheet, and CRM platforms.
  • Willingness to travel 40–50%, valid driver's license, and ability to pass a background check.
