The Business Development Manager – Commodities will support client and business development activity across the global Commodities sector, with a particular focus on client engagement, opportunity development, pipeline management and conversion.

Working closely with sector partners, the Commodities Executive Committee (ExCo) and regional Business Development colleagues, you will help develop priority client relationships, progress commercial opportunities and translate sector priorities into practical Business Development activity.

Duration: Permanent
Working Pattern: Minimum 2 days working from the office, 3 days remote

The Team

The role sits within the Commodities sector and forms part of the wider global Business Development and Marketing function.

You will work collaboratively with partners, lawyers and Business Development colleagues across practices and regions, supporting a coordinated approach to priority Commodities clients, including traders, producers, investors, logistics operators and state-owned enterprises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive client development activity for priority Commodities clients and develop and maintain focused client account plans.
  • Identify and progress cross-practice and cross-region opportunities to broaden and deepen client relationships.
  • Manage the Commodities opportunity pipeline, ensuring opportunities are appropriately qualified, tracked and progressed.
  • Lead and coordinate pitches, panels and proposals for priority clients, ensuring effective follow-up and capturing relevant feedback.
  • Coordinate senior-level client meetings, sector roadshows and engagement programmes aligned with Commodities priorities.
  • Translate agreed sector objectives into practical Business Development plans, campaigns and client programmes.
  • Provide and share relevant market, competitor and client insight across global Commodities markets.
  • Support targeted marketing, communications and thought leadership activity, ensuring content and credentials remain current and relevant.
  • Track Business Development activity and outcomes to support reporting and return-on-investment analysis.
  • Build strong relationships with partners, lawyers and Business Development colleagues, supporting joined-up delivery across practices and jurisdictions.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven business development or client development experience within a professional services environment, with legal-sector experience advantageous.
  • Experience supporting or leading pitches, proposals, client programmes and Business Development initiatives.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the confidence to work effectively with senior partners, lawyers and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, combined with confidence, diplomacy and sound commercial judgement.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across different teams, practices and regions.
  • Experience or knowledge of the Commodities sector would be advantageous but is not essential. Candidates with strong transferable Business Development experience and an interest in the sector will also be considered.

What sets this role apart

This is a genuinely global and commercially focused Business Development opportunity, providing exposure to client development activity across the Commodities sector and multiple practices, regions and jurisdictions.

You will have hands-on involvement throughout the Business Development lifecycle, from developing client account plans and coordinating senior-level engagement to identifying opportunities, managing pitches and supporting their conversion.

The role also provides exposure to sector strategy and senior stakeholders, helping turn Commodities priorities into practical client programmes, campaigns and opportunities while drawing on market, competitor and client insight.
